Muffler Options

Hey guys,

I'm playing with the idea of getting a new muffler for my '12 hatch and wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations for a good one out there. I'm really debating between a magnaflow and a borla but I'm open to other suggestions as well. I'm not looking at a cat-back because I'm not really seeking any performance improvements, I just want a nice looking/sounding muffler to replace the whale that's currently in place.

Thanks guys!

I personally have magnaflow and love it, others have the borla and love it. Either option will do you right. Between these two, neither is a bad choice.

Awesome man thanks for the quick response! To be honest I feel partial to the magnaflow, I love the mellow tone it has. Just for a reference, what part number is your muffler?

I went with a Vibrant muffler (part# 1102) and Vibrant 3.5" tip (part# 1304) on my custom exhaust just to be a little different (also a Vibrant bottle style resonator). I like the tone so far, and I think it looks nice too. I don't have any good exhaust clips yet; I may try to take a short video later tonight if I have time.
Here's a pic from behind... a little dirty

that looks really nice too! I like how cleaned up it looks in the back it looks really sharp. A sound clip would be sweet! If you don't mind me asking how much was the cost of parts? I'm looking at a budget of around $180-300 max

The FSWerks has a nice tone to it chewie, cool stuff, I could literally sit here all day and listen to all these beautiful sounds haha.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know anything about an SVT cat-back setup for the mk3? I know I previously stated I wasn't looking at a cat-back system but my dealer told me about an SVT set up for the mk3 that I was previously unaware of which to be honest sounds pretty appealing. I'd love to get some feedback on this!

I haven't heard of a 'SVT' exhaust for the mk3, but there is a Ford Racing Performance Parts exhaust. My understanding is that it's basically a Borla catback with 'Ford Racing' stamped on the muffler.

Alright cool that's good to know, do you know if its any good? I mean its a Borla and I have heard good things about the brand. (sorry if my questions are amateurish, I'm new to the exhaust scene lol)

The only SVT exhaust for the MK3 is the stock ST catback exhaust since the ST is a product of global performance vehicles (Team RS + SVT), and it does bolt right up with a few small modifications.

Car now has the Steeda CAI kit and a closer to 2.25 or 2.5" ST exhaust on it.

Monday the first shop really shouldn't have been trusted to work on it as they f-ed it up but I still had to pay the jokers most of the initial estimate which wasn't right at all.

Then I took it to an actual muffler/ exhaust shop down the road from there who said they get a lot of people from the other place after the first place screws something up in claiming they can weld or what not.

Car was stupid loud last night and hard core super droning.

Today the drone is either much less or almost gone entirely afaik.

Static rev with the seat belt chime at the beginning as I was yet to actually get ready to leave work, just taking a quick rev clip. That one seems too quiet, but I may have had the door closed and the microphone not pointed in the right direction.

Wide shot of the rear valence and exhaust set up.
Of course I've since traded the car for a full ST rather than an SEL that sort of almost looked as good as an ST.
