Starting the build - WHeels pics installed on pg. 2

Boxes of parts started arriving so now I am getting a little excited. I have this old but excellent condition 2003 ZX3 that I had originally bought for my oldest daughter when she graduated from college, but living in NYC she has no use for a car. It's been used very lightly since she moved up there in 2006, 90,000 miles and the interior still looks new and just been taking up garage space. So the wife finally decides I should build a moderate Solo II car out of it, since that seemed much cheaper to her than buying a new Shelby Mustang. The build is to keep it legal in SCCA STF for Solo II so there are limits to what you can do.

Parts that arrived so far, ceramic coated MAC shorty header, free flow cat, 2 1/4" flexpipe, Ford Racing SVT suspension, rear camber adjustment bolts, front camber adjustment plates.

I've also ordered the Volant CAI which won't arrive until the end of the month and I'm having a Magnaflow 2 1/4" cat back fabricated locally which should be ready by the end of the month.

Still have to decide about tuning though. There is a local shop that has a very good reputation but it sure seems easier just to plug in an available tune. I can't imagine with the limited mods that a custom tune is going to get much more out of it. Although at least with them running it on the dyno I'd know what it really does.

Updated last post with wheels installed.

Hey a fellow Houstonian!

Looks like your on to a good start, though I'd recommend dumping that shorty header and getting a SVT header instead (if it's allowed in the class). The SVT header is good for up to 15whp. I've run the shorty header, a non SVT long tube header, and now I'm running a SVT header. Hands down the SVT header is the one to get or the other long tube if no SVT one is available. The shorty is a waste of time and a huge heat maker regardless of being ceramic coated. I also have a hollowed out cat just sitting around if you want that stock look to fit into the class but want that bit of extra edge cheating can get you lol.

What local shop are you talking about doing the tuning? There are other options and can be much cheaper since you won't have to pay to have them tune it on the dyno which I assume they would do. You can do remote tuning that is just as good if not better with a know tuner for the focus. For some shops the amount of experience they have on the focus is limited or they've only have done a few cars.

As to the Volant intake I haven't ordered the scoop yet but it's on the list of maybe's.

In ST class the cat has to be in the same location as factory so you couldn't get away with the SVT header. i was thinking of using Houston Performance on 249 for tuning, they have a good rep but mostly with muscle cars.

YAY!!! Another Solo Focus in the mix.

Look forward to seeing the ride at a future event. Do you think you will bring it out to the next event?

I am there every event. I would also recommend you get the lower front camber adjustment as well.

What tires are you looking to get for your ride as well?

Again, look forward to seeing the ride and seeing you at the event one of these days.

I doubt it will be ready for next month, but we'll see, i would expect July/August before everything is ready.

I haven't decided on tires yet, but was considering the new Goodrich g-force Sport Comp 2, Dunlop Direzza ZII or Conti Extreme Contact DW.
