xp's FSVT

Greetings FF. Names Curtis, long time Focus owner, more recently FSVT owner, =D I've been on the forum for a bit now, mostly just lurk around the classifieds, and build showrooms. Definitely been meaning to introduce myself and the car to the community since I bought it.

Bought the car from a fellow forum member joshuasvt with 93k miles-ish on it. For the cars mechanical and aesthetic condition I do feel like I got hosed. The only real problem brought to my attention was the starter that needed replacing... Bygones are bygones and it was nothing a little more money & sweat didn't end up fixing in the long run, but d*mn if it would have been nice to know coming into the car.

So here's what I started with, 03 FSVT

So after driving it around for a short break in period, a few runs up some curvy mountain roads, some casual highway driving, and a sparing amount of launches, I would say about an oil change in, i'm noticing a fairly strange rotational-like vibration in the front end. The car being my daily, and me being almost always strapped for cash at the time, I continue driving on it until I notice the problems becoming more noticeable. On top of that the clutch has started acting up about at the same time, it decides when it wants to make terrible noises & the engage point has gone from a touchy subject to a pin prick on the tip of the pedals entire travel distance. Not good.

So long story short I buy my starter because I'm awfully tired of bump starting it and parking half a mile away so I can use gravity to turn on my engine. On top of being entirely too embarrassing to watch fart-canned Honda Accords drive past with a smirk.

So the starter was easy, replaced, and working well. And here comes the "mo betta" part. I ran it for about another week and a few days, this was on Christmas Eve, maybe 2 miles away from my house my master cylinder decides to snap on me, much like you would expect the sound from cracking into a fresh glow stick the second I let the pedal out everything goes flaccid. Then to add insult to injury brake fluid spills out from the top of the pedal onto my foot & floorboards.

So what to do at this point?

Get her up in the air and start turning wrenches, as any good Ford owner knows. With an OEM clutch package on the way I start tearing into some front end stuffs to see if I can't find out what my problems are with stability and the vibrations I'm feeling up front.. Both top side mounts are trashed, and when I say trashed I really mean terrifyingly close to shearing off. So those get ordered. I dig into the brakes a bit, noticeable lip on the front rotors so those get replaced. Sway bar end-links are clunking around so those get replaced too, and outer tie end rods. Still unsure if they needed it but it was for good measure.

The only thing I would have done differently was let the car sit for a while longer while I saved up enough for a differential to put in there. Besides boosting, that is my top priority mod and I really think it will make this car a beast of a fwd platform.

So after much wrench turning and heavy grunting here she is all washed and with some fairly minor tweaks & changes =D

Changed out the aftermarket headlights for some Mach's, in pretty alright shape some oxidization of the plastic. Put the hood shroud back on with a generous application of spray on adhesive. Also took off the volant intake for the stock air box. It was janky in the engine bay, all the mounting hardware was stripped and the funnel had been epoxied to the box with some random bits of silicone tubing. Lastly be warned, all of these pictures are from a camera phone so don't expect DSLR quality, that comes later!

Yakima racks I bought off a friends wrecked sti

I'm very glad to be part of a respectful community, who own some of the coolest FWD platform's that have ever existed, and I hope to meet some locals I can bomb around with. It's always fun seeing another FSVT out on the road!

In the future mods,
  • Differential
  • Boost! (Turbo or JRSC)
  • EAP Leathers
  • Paint, (CD Silver, Infrared, Black, or White) Opinions wanted!
  • Lowered? I do like being able to go over bumps, a lot)

I hope either you, or the prior owner, replaced the timing belt assembly/water pump, etc. recently. If not, it should be priority #1, otherwise you will have lots more unexpected and unplanned expense.
Car look very good, I like your future plans (don't go too low!), and welcome to the SVT family

I know it's off-topic, and I like the SVT and all, but that RX-7 is extremely cool. I love those so much.

They don't look amazing, but one of my buddies used to own one, and I drove it and fell in love. It is long gone though, rear ended and totaled.
