I think its clear that the DCT has ardent foes and fans. But the original post in this thread is whether the 2013 Focus is reliable. Even with the complaints raised about the DCT, it is yet to be seen whether the DCT makes the Focus less reliable...yet.

One a side note, when the CVT transmission was introduced, it was bashed as well but car companies (especially nissan and to a lesser extent, honda) continued to use them. Now it is accepted that the CVT has a "rubber band" feel to them (high revs when hitting the gas even though there is no corresponding pick up in acceleration) but no one calls them unreliable. And yes you have to learn how to drive a CVT transmission differently then a regular torque converter transmission. I suspect over time, they will be saying the same thing with the DCT.

I can't say I hate a CVT equipped car more than my DCT equipped Focus, that being said I prefer to have a manual over both, but test drove a CVT equipped C-Max and it felt fine to me.

Agreed, most of the threads of this nature turn into a DCT or MFT debate/bashing on the MK3.

As for reliability - based on what is posted on this site, car reviews, and the Ford Focus 13 year history: it seems the Focus is reliable; more so, if you have a '12/'13 with a manual transmission and without My Ford Touch.

Im at a pass hear. Im not to sure about reliability yet on my 13. My 13 focus is in the dealership for the 2nd time in one week for tranny and engine problems (Shuttering, wanting to die, shut off twice, bad mileage, sync radio, etc.) My 04 is another story. My 04 focus survived driving around turboed without a finished tuned for over a year and not one problem with it ever.

Yes, but are the MFT problems actually reliability problems? I mean, would the MFT problems ever keep you from getting to work in the morning?

Fair point! For most of the masses, no - this does not keep you from getting to work.

However, If I traveled for work (sales or something of the like) and needed GPS directions to get to/from various locations; then yes this issue might be considered a reliability issue.

Unless you have no memory and rely on Sync Navigation, yes I could see it being a problem. Mine crashed today when I was driving, first time ever. Had crashes when I was parked, but not while in motion with Sync Navigation active. If I was travelling in some strange area, I would have been screwed.

The problems on my car are not getting any better, DCT is also acting up. Not even at 3K miles yet.

Without a doubt this is the worst new car I have ever purchased in terms of issues that cannot be ignored.

I think car companies in general are having a rough transition of providing high tech infotainment systems in their cars. BMW is infamous in releasing a not ready for prime time system (iDrive) that took years before they ironed out most of the known problems. Even today, you can google plenty of folks still complaining of outstanding issues.

I don't have navigation in my Ti but I use Sync services and have not experienced a problem with that navigation system other than to say that the system takes a long time to update a route if you go off course. However, I think that is a problem with the service and not the built in GPS.

The MFT system rebooted on my once one week after I bought the car but has been stable ever since. Yes, there are bugs but nothing that I personally thinks rises to the level of not being useful.

I am approaching one year of ownership and so far I can't complain. I hope those who are having problems will get their issues resolved...I think the car is excellent especially if you can experience it without any DCT MFT issues.

Regarding the tech issues I have one that I've not seen posted to report now that I'm reasonably sure I'm not going crazy...I have the basic sync system and today for the 3rd time in about a 4 week period
when I started the car it turned itself on.My radio/sync is always off through the week as I never listen to music in the car unless I'm on a long roadtrip and my daily commute is 4 mins and early AM so no phone calls to catch. Just wondering if anyone else has a sync system thats feeling left out...?
