MKIII Focus DRL's for under $20

So I went and bought 4, 12" LED strips off ebay for $14 shipped. I also bought some 22 ga wire (40ft roll with a lot left over for next project if needed). I mentioned in the DRL's for our focus that I was going to do this and instead of jumping onto that thread I wanted to create a new one so this didn't get lost in page 100+ for someone who wants to do it. I didn't feel like spending $130 for the chrome LED bumper inserts you see on ebay. I also wanted the DRL to be toward the bottom of our "triangle" bumper insert as well and not in the middle. The location is perfect for an LED DRL and Ford should have done this for all of us right from the factory on every model. I removed the splash guard from underneath and ran a power from the fuze box and a ground wire to both locations in the bumper. I didn't remove the inserts at all for the record. I just used a flat head screw driver from the back side corner and turned it sideways to create a gap I could slip the LED strip through. Once in place and the right length was achieved I removed the 3M tape and followed the bottom edge while applying. The Following effect was achieved and in day light the LED strip is hardly noticeable. I took the following photos with my droid and will be doing my wife's Focus car tomorrow. Enjoy Everyone!

Ebay Auction: Yes they are water proof

Little gap & it helps hold it in place:

Looks good. Where did you tap into the fuse box?

On my wife's car I will splice both power lines to 1 so it's easier to close the lid instead of the 2 I did on mine.

I'll get a day shot today for you. That was one of my concerns that I didn't get a large enough LED's in the light strip to be seen during the day. I'll post one up when I go for a drive today.

Worst case scenario I buy another light strip with larger ones and use the ones I have for door lights or some other project.

looks good........ as you stated i might have gone with bigger leds but you pull it off. Was thinking about doing something similiar but instead going in the lower middle of the bumper where theres those 4 "holes" But for that Id have to install from the inside on the bumper

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but those things will fail fairly quickly. (BTW those are interior application strips.) Even if rated for exterior use, the LEDs will burn one at a time in short order.

Ask me how I know...

I was thinking that location as well. After todays pictures I'll leave them on for a while but I may order Larger LED's.

Here's what they look like in the Daylight: (Off)
