I might actually consider my first non-Ford, like ever, and consider the new Forte. It just dethroned the Mazda3 in Motor Trend's latest compact comparo. Great power and acceleration (with the 2.0L), combined with great features and fuel economy, plus it looks just like a Focus. But only if it's built in their American plant - I can't seem to find any info on that.

That is interesting. But isn't everything they have the ecoboost 4 in fwd? Are they going to make the mustang fwd or are they going to make the 2.3 rwd? If so it would drain more power than it does in the fwd models needing to travel through the lager tranmission driveshaft then axles. But, that being said it will open a new door for those brave enough to destroy a new focus ST. Focus ST rwd swaps.

How would that open the door to a ST rwd swap?

2014 Ford Mondeo Hatchback.

Europe also gets a station wagon version of the Mondeo, which has merged again with the Fusion after having diverged from the Contour back in the day.

That is awesome, I wish I could have bought a wagon instead of just a hatch, with two kids and a big dog, I wanted more room.

I should add to my original post some. These are also on my radar for the wife to drive (and I take over her aging '06 Audi A4)

- New GMC Acadia (the redesign is awesome)
- New Explorer Sport (3.5L Ecoboost in a large SUV?....why yes please)
- Flex with AWD and Ecoboost engine.....(See above)
- Trailblazer SS (passes everything but a gas station, but looks sharp!)

I would also LOVE to have my Yukon back. It's what I traded for the Focus, and while the Focus is saving us some cash, I really miss my big truck! SO..
- NBS Suburban w/ Z71 package.

If you make it outside the MK3 section. You will see rwd v8 swaps going on all the time in 1st gen focus using a mustang engine trans and rear end. Mustangs rear end is quite narrow to fit larger wheels and fit perfect under a focus with the help of wheel adaptors. They make a bolt up kit to make this swap possible in the first gens. But most people like the couple builds currently going on in the forums just make everything from scratch minus the drivetrain.

If ford makes the mustang ecoboost 4 rwd all the componets will be there already. Just go down to your local dealership pick you up the trans, mounts and axles to turn the engine side ways then custom build the suspension wireing and stuff, like people are already doing today.

The Mustang is and will remain RWD with the caviat that they are developing a new independent rear suspension for the 2015 MY to go with the new and carry over powertrain line up.

It's more likely that anyone wanting to swap in the 2.3 L EcoBoost engine for a Focus ST would take one from an FWD application, such as if it were to be used in a Focus RS, or possibly the MKC.

Technically it wouldn't unless the engine would fit longitudinally in the engine bay and the wheel bases were close enough to make the swap, with or without a custom rear end and drive shaft.

The MK1 models had a huge amount of space and could fit the 4.6 L cammer v8 under the hood and had a driveshaft tunnel already for rally homologation, which made it slightly easier than with the MK3.

The current platform is available with AWD, but it's the transverse on demand awd type of system used in the Escape.

This is so awesome. Reminds me of my MK1 Mazda6 hatch. I loved that car.
