I'd go with a Lincoln MKZ possibly. Brand new model with probably fwd not the awe, either hybrid or v6. I do like the new Fusion. It be a 4 door for sure though. I hated my old two door vehicles space wise.

just sayin'... my post commented on MY experience and in no way was inferring your experience... as you are taller and larger than i am it's a no brainer that the fiesta would be a tighter fit for you. pls read posts carefully.

That's one thing I have been fairly impressed with the Focus. I'm 6'3 230lbs and I'm very comfortable in the size of the focus.

When I met my wife, she had a cobalt and I was very uncomfortable in that car.

This^^^^ You have to be able to fit & feel comfortable & the s/w & seat to adjust to you. Years ago I looked at Corolla XRS's 175hp 6spd. The wheel for me was to far away, unlike the focus wheel. So if you don't feel good in a car, no matter how great it is or runs forget it.

Cruise it for a 15-20 mile drive, not just around the block

Sounds like a plan. Take your time & don't just whip it around the block. 15-20 mile drive. Enjoy

The only two cars I would take before my FoFo are:
- VW Gold GDi (but not available in North America for now)
- Focus ST

They were not available at the time I did my purchase (sept 2011), so I'll wait another 3 years before considering a new car.

The MKZ is a cool car. You can also get the 37 wheres in the Fusion you can't. I'm not a hybrid kind of guy. So it'd have to be a 20 or 37 for me.

Leather, sunrooof, 6 disc in-dash cd w/ Bose surround and subwoofer, heated seats and mirrors, 6 air bags, projection headlights, full size spare, Manu-matic tranmission, 4wheel disc w/ ABS and traction control. 17in wheels.

Here's a thread I started for it.

I actually traded my 2005 Mazda 6 Hatchback in for a Focus. It was as loaded as you could get.

As much as I miss it I do not think I would undo the trade. Right now I am saving $20 a month on insurance plus $20-$25 a week on gas. The only downside is my payments increase more than what I am saving.

If I were you, I would just buy an SE with the MTX75. I can't think of anything else I would rather have for the money...

Nothing wrong with the Focus, as long as you have a MT, same for the ST. Coming from Volkswagens, it's ride and feel and interior quality is up there, maybe not Audi quality but it's much nicer than the MkVI Jetta that VW made so cheap.

The DCT is the biggest hindrance and it's a big one for many including myself.
