Well I guess I can actually say what I actually replaced my focus with. I still have the focus but it has been sitting since august awaiting it's third engine and I've lost interest in it and needed a daily.

I too turned to mazda. I got a 2004 mazda6 sport w/ 220hp 3.0 V6.

Leather, sunrooof, 6 disc in-dash cd w/ Bose surround and subwoofer, heated seats and mirrors, 6 air bags, projection headlights, full size spare, Manu-matic tranmission, 4wheel disc w/ ABS and traction control. 17in wheels.

Here's a thread I started for it.

I never thought I'd say this, but I have really been enjoying the little hatch. It's extremely practical in day to day driving, I can haul a crap ton of lumber in it... and my ankle biting crib midgets.

My only issue with the car is it's piss ass slow; so if I were to replace it at this time, it would probably be fore a ST or MS3. I'd probably favor the ST though because Ford's technology/interiors are far superior right now.

I believe the question was more geared toward if the focus MK3 did not come out, what would you have purchased.

Beings the OP has a focus and is looking to trade out of it... I'm thinking his question is more along the lines; if you were to trade in your focus today, what cars would you be considering to replace it with.

Planning on trading up to an ST3 after a few more months of double/triple payments to bring my loan down enough to keep monthly payments the same with the ST. July/August can't come fast enough.

I'm thinking I might go look at an ST this weekend, get some quotes towards a base one.
