Tire Warranty

I just picked up my '13 Focus SE Hatchback with 17" upgrade. I drove it over to Discount Tire and bought their road hazard plan that covers all 4 tires for the life (~60k) for $76 after tax, this includes rotation. I had the option of buying the lifetime balance for $48 more but I opted to just pay for that when I have the first rotation done. Most people arent aware they can buy this plan when they have less than 10k on their new cars.

So you give Discount $76 and they warranty a tire you didn't purchase from them for the life span of the tire?

I guess a good investment for you if you run over a lot of shit... but seems like a strange idea for them.

Not a bad idea if the tire you've covered receives unrepairable damage since that can still save you from spending $100+ on a new tire but they will still repair a flat and rotate your tires for free even if you didn't buy from them since that's good business for them when you do need a new set of tires or even wheels.

Its like all insurance....the odds are that they make money on it because you won't use it.

Yes, exactly... I like the road hazard warranty on low profile tires because a lot of times the side walls are not repairable.. but for me the value is in the convenience of the tire balance. There is a Discount Tire near my workplace and I can have the tires rotated and balanced in under 10 minutes on my lunch break.

My previous car was a gt mustang and I learned a very expensive lesson when it comes to the importance of rotation and balancing your tires at the appropriate intervals.

No need to bust on a newbie, just passing on the info

Your rear tires weren't wide enough if you could rotate them with the front.

Thanks Misfire, $9.95 is a great price on a tire warranty... Tell us more about the warranty, does it prorate the tire value or do you get a brand new tire no matter the tread.

If the tire is repairable, it gets patched. If it needs replacement, they replace it with a new tire down to 4/32nds I believe. After that it gets prorated. Also, the tires get rotated for free every 5,000 miles as well.

I could be wrong, but doesn't Continental provide a road hazard warranty from the factory?
