51psi?

I've got the 16" Conti's on my se. I went to check the air today and read the max inflation for the tire is 51psi. If this is correct I'll be loving my new found mileage. Rears were 30psi & fronts 35psi. The max mounting psi is 40psi on the rim?

NEVER EVER FILL YOUR TIRES TO THE MAX PSI RATING ON THE TIRE!

the correct setting is 35 PSI there is a sticker on your door jam stating this, it can also be found in your owners manual.

I usually run 5%-10% under the max on the sidewall of the tire. I ran my OEM's at 45-48psi and they still had more tread in the middle than on the sides when they were gone. Ride is a little firmer, but mpg's are better and cornering is better.

51 PSI is the max pressure that tire is rated for. At 51 PSI you'll wear out the center tread quickly. Vehicle Manufacturers figure out what tire pressure gives the best combination of mileage and even tire wear.

You may gain a couple MPG but it's nothing compared to the cost of replacing 4 tires several thousand miles early.

By the way I'm a Mechanic at "Tire Discounters" so I see the results of over inflation every day.

To me the door jam number is a bottom number not to go below, because it is so close to being under inflated anything less would be dangerous.

im sorry but 51 is just crazy! and the ride must be horrible for everyday driving as well. I keep mine right at 40 and i thought that was a little high

I didn't set it there but what I observed On the tire. I set it slightly over 40 psi. Temps get hot in Florida so I worried about the increase in pressure from heat. Sounds like I should take it a little lower though.

Set your tires at the recommended pressure.
