How has there not been a Hyundai like lawsuit against Ford for the fuel economy of this vehicle?

I'm beside myself with how disgusting the fuel economy of this 160 hp car is. It's ridiculous. I would have sprung for a V8 if this was going to be the case. I can't get it below 11L per 100 kilometers. I'm just above a 1/4 tank with 247 Km's on the odometer. It's been city drving but the window sticker said 7.2, not 11. Granted driving style can effect this but I've been easy on it. I've brought it to the dealer and they want me to pay for the testing. If they find something I get reimbursed. I already know I'm going to get the "Sir, driving style...." speech. I expect 11L per 100 if I absolutely kick the s$@t out of the car, not keeping it below 3000 rpm. I find it very hard to drive it like Miss. Daisy, with the burn rate of an ocean liner.

I've recently given up on driving for mileage (no fun) and I'm still averaging 32-33 mpg with 70/30 highway/city, so perhaps there's something up with your vehicle.

Now if I've done my math right that's roughly 21-23mpg for us Americans here on the boards. That does not sound normal to me. I average 31-32mpg with "normal" driving, and if I'm flogging it I only drop to 26-28. That means 11 liters would last me 160km or so, again if my conversions are correct. Sounds like something is up with your car; I wouldn't say it's lawsuit material given the average on fuelly.com matches up with the estimates very well.

As for paying for diagnostics? That's BS if I ever heard it. Go find yourself a new dealership; you don't have to get it serviced where you bought it.

Edit- I use Sunoco 93 Octane

On average, I'm driving about 32% Cty (164.3 km) and achieving an average of 8.36L/100km (11.99km/L or 28.21 MPG) combined using Shell Bronze (87 E10).

I've noticed keeping the car in "Sport" (S) mode while driving through the city (I live in the GTA as well) gives better mileage since the car isn't constantly shifting through gears. Maybe I'm wrong though(?).

I drive an SEL hatch, my milage through the winter, mixed city/suburb driving has been 30.5-31.5 using VALERO 87. Not too bad for me. But now it is warmer and I have gotten substantially better milage. It is now running about 35mpg. I did a drive friday with 60% highway/40% city with a rear bike rack and bike, without resetting the computer it is now at 38.1mpg. I am very pleased with the results. I think it must be either you have a problem with your car or with the quality of the gas you are using.

i would agree w/ many of the comments posted here.. in winter my mileage suffers w/ 'winter blend' gas and the cold w/ generally shorter trips around town.. usually 23-25mpgs. (the crappy 10% ethanol we're forced to buy now does not help)
In summer w/ the same kind of driving i'm getting around 29mpg.
Mixed driving consistently 30-33mpg
Hwy driving always upper 30s to low 40s depending on speed, wind, traffic, etc.
I have a scan gauge and noticed today on level road w/ 75f temp at 45mph i was getting a steady 56.4 mpg... nice, tho not very real but good to see that number.

I'm totally babying the car. Not a fun way to drive. If I so much as pass someone with a bit of an aggressive throttle the L/100 start climbing immediately. I'm on Esso 87, by far the worst mileage I've seen. I seem to yield the best on Petro Canada but even that's still in the 10's.

I hardly do any city driving, but on the highway using shell bronze I've gotten an average 5.9l/100km, just cruising at 110 up highway 11. In the city I average 8.2.

The secret is they are running a Worldwide experiment with the control group using huge amounts of gas and the test group getting better results than the estimated gas usage.
I, lucky, am in the test group and get 35 city..
