No he doesn't. He may think he does, but he is wrong. No one wants an auto. They may believe that an auto is a better fit for their circumstances, but no one ever wants an automatic.

IMO, since the OP says he wants better gas mileage and better reliability, that means he wants a manual transmission.

I would recommend looking for an 06 or 07 sedan.
Having more than 100k miles on a duratec isn't a bad thing and from what I've seen, the interiors hold up much better than the 00-04 models.

Good luck.

I know, I'm a hatch guy myself... but in all honesty If I found a stellar deal on a sedan I can't say I wouldn't be tempted... Also I believe some early wagons had an SPI (I could be wrong), some don't consider them hatches, but I do ;)

+1, I wanted an auto when I bought my foci, had to pretty much learn to drive stick in it, but now I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you really really have to have an auto, the 2.3l is the only way to go.

I had to have an auto, I have tendonitis in both elbows and can hardly turn the steering wheel with one arm at times. So I opted through chance if you will, to get the 2.3 Auto.

Cody you are correct some wagons came with the SPI, but that is not what I stated.

Thank you all very much! This help was exactly what I needed to get me pointed in the right direction. Unfortunately it looks like I'll have to hold off on buying my focus till at least the end of the summer, but it will happen! If everything goes as planned and I have the money I will post what I end up with on here. Thanks again!
