Retirement is big here but a lot of people who retire are not seniors either. Tourism is very big, not just US tourists but Foreigners, but like I said most MKIII Focus I see are fleet or rental cars, so there is no real way to label it as such.

I see more MKI and MKII Focus driven my young males who like to shop for aftermarket at PepBoys.

This is classic

Well, I am in the early 50's male demographic. Definitely grey haired. At 20 I owned a Datsun 510, lowered and dual carbed. At 30 I owned a Honda Civic Wagon. At 40 I owned a VW Eurovan. I loved all of them. This time I wanted to buy American if feasible, I have a 60 mile daily commute, and purchase price is not an issue. The fact that Ford designed the Focus in Germany caught my attention as did the driving dynamics in comparison to Cruze and Volvo.

I am frugal, however, because I believe that we owe a duty to the environment not to consume more than we need. I drive 60-65 MPH, never over.

Here in turistaville, I have observed loads of bar code emblazoned Focus renters. OTOH, my son's best buddy, a new school teacher, also bought an entry level Focus HB. I think you can't sell 1,000,000 cars a year without having a very broad demographic appeal.

I'll probably get flamed for saying it, but I think the "little old lady" stuff is immature and sexist. Let's face it. All of us here are nerdy car enthusiasts. And we bought Focus too. Does that make me a granny? I don't think so.

Down at the jersey shore I have seen a lot of titanium models drive by the retired population, along with the fiesta, escape, and even the dodge dart, Honda fit, civic si's. I see a lot of elderly people drive sport cars.

Yes, you will get flamed because it was my observation made during my commute (and a lighthearted one at that), not a judgment. Untwist your panties sir.

Guess you found out how FEW "enthusiasts" like being called little old ladies.. (grin)

If you'd thrown in a (grin) after "WTF did I buy?" it might have been take a bit more lightheartedly.

I doubt any of the responders SERIOUSLY "have their panties in a twist", but I see a number had fun grumbling.

"Immature & sexist"? - Sure it is, but you knew that when it was posted. Glad to see the original post was intended to be a "lighthearted" jest, no "flaming" over replies would be appropriate in that case.

If any DID take it seriously, I hope they see you meant it in a "lighthearted" way.

Cheers!
