The good news is all you smug 20somethings will get old too. or be dead.

Aside from that.. My last car was a Contour SVT I bought new.. drove fast..
I decided I needed to stop getting tickets. (my last was for 35 over. Lucky for me the cop was not 1/4 mile further down the road, or it would have been for 60 over the speed limit)
Now I drive slow, and watch the mpg meter.. If you are behind me and honk, I slow down LOL.
I had a nice youth. Stupid as most of the punks writing here seem to be, true, But now I can behave, and stop all the punks trying to speed by weaving too much for them to pass.
You guys are funny as Hell.
When I retired three years ago i almost bought a Hyabusa. But falling off a 186mph would really hurt a lot more that it would have when i was younger, so i skipped that. Though it would be a lot of fun going 200mph now and then.
Oh yeah, i am 63

Thank you for turning off The View and Lifetime Movie Network long enough to join us. (Arghhhhhh - - i'm just twistin your granny panties )

Actually, some of us twenty something whippersnappers are in our forties.

So, when you bought your focus, did you feel like you were buying a kid's car or did you feel like you were the target demographic?

I bought mine as a commuter car and felt a bit silly for buying a teen or twenty something year old's car. Hence my surprise to see the demographic skewing quite a bit older - at least based on what I see in my own travels.

How many women are driving STs? And I mean as the main driver and it's "her" car. Women tend to shy away from the steroid injected models of any car. My Focus is really my wife's and I drive the STI which is primarily male dominated driven car but around here you do see the occasional girlfriend/wife driving them. ;')
With the Focus I see a huge demograph of driver's and ages but with the enthusiasts crowd in the car/truck scene it tends to be male dominated.

When I think of a "girly" car you really can't beat the last generation VW Beetle and downright makes any model of Focus (even the Frosted glass and gold ones) look like a bro's car.

I would own an STI if I could presently afford it.
I would have bought an ST if it was out when I needed a new car.
Last time I looked down, I fit the qualifications of 'woman driver'.
My fiancee, (another woman), loves the STI, and if I didn't stop her, would probably own an FD3S, a car most boys (I don't know many 'men') are gunshy of.

Thine argument art invalid, good sir!

I am a Ford girl. I like Fords.

The Focus is BOTH a 'kids car' and an economy car, and an old fart/Granny car. It fits a lot of people's needs. that is how it is becoming the #1 seller around the world.
My prior car was a Contour SVT. I liked it enough to keep it 12 years..
Though actually the problem was Ford just refused to offer a comparable car in the Contour class.
Finally I really needed a new car, and the 2012 Focus was "good enough' I insist on having a manual transmission. The sport package was ok in the 2012. If the ST would have been around at the time... I might have gone for it. But, as I wrote, I need to stop speeding so much.. I am too old to be racing around all the time. (because my reflexes are slower mostly..and my 'internal cop radar' seemed to stop working so i was getting more tickets)
So I got the 2012 SE with manual tranny and sport package.
I cranked up the tires to 40 rear 45 front. it turns nice, is good enough, I love the looks, the Yellow Blaze color, and the seats.
It can accelerate OK for around town onto freeways, etc, and i can drive it slow and get good MPGs.. Which is my NEW hobby. (instead of going 20 over all the time)

So MY car I hope WOULD appeal to anyone wanting a cool car. I wanted it.

When I brought my focus home form the dealer, my kids said I bought a grandma car. That made me feel like crap until I though that they wont be bothering me to drive it. Im a 42 year old dad and still go 4wd

With the ageing population, most any car can be considered such, but in my area Cadillac, Buick and Lexus fit the stereotype along with Toyota and a newcomer is the Hyundai Sonata which is gaining in popularity.

The only Fords that use to be labeled such was the Town Car or Mercury Grand Marquis.

If your car is Gold or Champagne color, it's often associated with that as well.

I travel all over the country and see the Mk3's quite often but I don't see any pattern of old lady drivers anywhere I've been. My observation is that there are a goodly number of young male drivers as well as a goodly number of older drivers, male and female but mostly male.

Now, I haven't been to the retirement community known as Florida for some years and all bets are off when you get to a place like that.
