I know front LPs are not required in Alabama. I'm 99% sure they're not required in the SE. I've never seen any down here.

here in Colorado both front and rear are required but it is acceptable to display your plate in the dash.

there are only like 5 states that don't require you to have a front plate, Pennsylvania being one of them.....i don't understand the whole front plate thing anyway, what the point??

People here have been pulled over and given tickets for having their plate in the front windshield. It doesn't comply with state laws. Most cops probably won't do anything but it's within the law to give you a ticket if the front plate isn't mounted on the front of the car.

From Washington State RCW 46.16.240 - Attachment of plates to vehicles
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The vehicle license number plates shall be attached conspicuously at the front and rear of each vehicle for which the same are issued and in such a manner that they can be plainly seen and read at all times"

"Each vehicle license number plate shall be placed or hung in a horizontal position at a distance of not less than one foot nor more than four feet from the ground and shall be kept clean so as to be plainly seen and read at all times"

The point is to make the tags more visible to police or other motorists in case of accident or infraction.

NC has no front plates, and people would leave the scene of an accident or crime all the time without being identified.

in ontario, if you put the front plate on your dashboard, the police will give you a $110 ticket for improperly displayed licence plate, it has to be "affixed" to the "front" of the car, it dosent say mounted with screws, so you could easily tie wrap it or construct your own bracket so it doesnt put holes in your bumper.

Here's a color code chart of which states require front license plates.
Clicky
You folks down south have got it made.
Didn't realize there were that many states without the front plates.
