Clicking when I open the door

2013 Titanium

When I open the door, I hear some whirring and clicking from the engine compartment. Sounds like an electric motor, possibly the power steering.

Is this normal?

Thanks!

Your car is totally broken.

JK, it's the throttle actuator, it's normal.

Totally normal, at least to Ford. They don't educate or inform the buyer till after you purchase the car of this nuance. It's the PowerShift aka DCT transmission preparing itself for departure.

If your's grinds and shudders between shifts, then welcome to the MyFord Grind Club, where membership is automatic literally speaking.

Good theory but I get the noise too and I have a standard transmission!

I reported that last year on here and someone said it was the fuel system pressurizing, getting ready for engine start. Most plausible theory I've heard yet.

Before the car is running? Sounds less plausible than the fuel system pressurization to me.

The noise I hear sounds like my car is a Transformer Robots in Disguise, not sure if it's identical to what your hearing?

http://community.cartalk.com/discuss...lick-whirr-etc

Ford's statement:

"vehicles equipped with the Powershift DPS6 transmission may experience a clicking noise from the transmission after the doors are unlocked, opened and prior to the engine starting, for up to 3 min. The noise is the shift motors waking up and preparing for startup. Attempts to eliminate the noise should not be made."

Yes, before it's even running. Every time I open my door, I hear it, if I open it then close it sometimes and walk around the garage, I'll hear it again a few minutes later.

It's not a fuel pump sound like I heard in my VW every time I opened the door. Ford already stated it's the DCT waking up.
