it vents opens and closes
^^^So I take it, it doesn't slide all the way back by pushing on the "rear-most" portion of the switch?

You could try the "re-learning" procedure, though it does sound like a wiring problem:
Quote:
Relearning function:
In case the moon roof does not close properly anymore, follow this relearning procedure.
• Tilt the moon roof into the vent position as far as possible. Release the switch.
• Press and hold the same switch again for 30 seconds until you see the moon roof move.
• Release the switch and immediately press and hold it again.
The moon roof will close, open fully and then close again.
Do not release the switch before the moon roof has reached the closed position for the second time.
Safety mode:
If the system detects a malfunction, it enters a safety mode.
The moon roof will move about 0.5 seconds at a time and then stop again.
Press the switch again and again until the moon roof is closed.
Have the system checked by your Ford Dealer immediately.

hey guys, my first post ever in here!

just picked up a used ztw with a couple issues that i have to address...

and one of them is EXACTLY what hockeyfreek just described.

the sunroof opens pushing the front of the sunroof switch, but it doesn't slide back (or do anything for that matter) when you push the back part of the switch. I havn't tried re-setting the motor yet, will try that.

any other ideas?!

^^^Did you try the "relearning" procedure yet?

Though...that may not work in your case.
To get the sunroof to "vent", you should hit the forward portion of the button.
Is there a chance the new switch was installed backwards? (reversed?)

I had this problem once before. I opened the sunroof, but then I couldn't get it to close. The re-learning thing didn't do anything, but if I pressed the back button it would move back a little bit. Then I had to just keep pressing it to make progress, but eventually it closed. I dont know if you have the exact same problem, but maybe this helps.

strage idea

while the sunroof is closed, look across your roof, to see if the glass is actually sitting evenly and flush with the roof. maybe one of the tracks or soemthing got bent/damaged somehow or there is debris in the track. even if it's only a little bit off, it might not be able to slide back from a dead stop in the closed position. maybe it opens after you vent it because it has some momentum and makes it past the debris/damaged area of the track. I know it's a wacky idea, but sunroofs are touchy; the smallest problem and they're a mess....
