Clay bars quickly remove overspray and paint contamination leaving the cleaned surface "smooth as glass". To work properly, all clays require a lubricant. Soapy water will work in a pinch but it provides only minimal paint protection and the detergents in some soaps can break down the clay causing it to disintegrate. I completely claybarred my zx-4 'Sasha' in a couple of hours... I used Meguiars clay bar kit thingy and it looked b!tchin' if you ask me... especially after a wax. heck, some of the fine scratches were removed too...

I drive through a Scrub-A-Dub car wash.

and then if the hot air dry misses some spots I have a microfiber cloth to dry it

I use a microfiber mitt because the untra plush surface will not scratch as long as you keep it clean.

If you use something so plush, how can you scrub the dirt and mud and bird poop and bug guts off?

you can use a different mit or spnge or something like that....... then you can use your "good" mit or sponge to do the rest..... after all the heavy build up is taken off.

I picked microfiber mitt, but it's actually a microfiber covered sponge.

I always use the "foaming brush" at the car wash.

I take mine to the 'handwash' car wash close by. Great people that do great work.
