Yes, mine was the "revised" tensioner.

I'll be honest, this has me quite a bit freaked out. I just put a Gates belt and tensioner on my SVT last month. Makes me want to tear it back apart and double-check everything--even if it doesn't make a difference, it might help my peace of mind.

I honestly doubt that it will mess up if you've had it for a month. Since ours lasted for maybe 50 miles..

Mine claimed to be the revised tensioner as well. I can't say whether or not my car had the OEM timing assembly still on it, but the tensioner looked like the Ford one. When I compared the two, the Gates tensioner appeared to be a more robust design, though I can't help but to have doubts about that now.

I wonder if there is some sort of commonality we can track down on the parts that failed? I still have the box my Gates components came in but I haven't looked to see if there is something on it like a lot number or serial number.

Its been almost 2 months and ~3k miles since mine was installed and it been fine so far, but it seems like these tend to give out with zero warning.

I may give him a call, I really want to know the big differences in design between the gates and the OE part. I'm genuinely surprised that there is another case of premature failure, so hopefully this isn't a larger issue than we actually know about.

Edit - I'll go by and grab the tensioner that was on my car later today so I can get more descriptive, put some additional pictures up.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Having a broken belt is one thing, but a brand new tensioner that fails is out of this world.

I'm going to go and get some pictures in a little bit, see if the shop has any updates for me.

Exclamation

Took some photos today. Parts still look new despite having almost 1000 miles on them. They should right? ...

Tensioner :

Idler :

Machine shop will probably get to my head tomorrow. Blessing and curse of using the place with a good reputation (City Motor Supply in Dallas). I'll have pictures of that when it gets done, I plan on stuffing this thread with as much SVT head rebuilding pr0n as possible.

No reply from Gates link. Going to look for a phone number tomorrow. Hopefully I won't sound like a raging lunatic if I get a hold of someone.

Anyone have an opinion on installing an adjustable cam gear for the exhaust cam? I know dyno tuning would only give marginal results, but everything is apart right now and this motor might go FI in a year or two depending on life circumstances. Local hookup who got his SVT totaled has one sitting around, so it just makes me think.

Tomorrow is FRIDAY. I'll watch this a few times trying to motivate myself into a good attitude.
