Probably, but it has not been done yet, this tuning should be what is needed to push a few cars over 200.

Aron said they should be shipping today

I'm surprised no one has come up with open-source-style tuning hardware where the hardware can be re-used from car to car, and where the tuning software is widely available (open source). I'm new to the concept of tuning but $400+ seems steep. I was just surprised I guess.

The car manufacturer's are making the car's computer more encrypted and not to mention there are multiple PCM's for just one car model. So that sounds very unlikely. They also do it for theft security purposes.

^ This. And if you think $400 is steep, roll on over to your nearest decent tuner and ask him how much it would cost to have a custom tune done. If you bought the SCT unit, for example, you would spend nearly that amount of money on the device alone (with no tune). Then you'll pay for dyno runs. Then you pay his time to create your file. Then you run it some more for datalogging, maybe pay some more for dyno/his time, and then you have a stock tune and a custom tune.

Besides that cost you lose your time. And then you get to do it all over again if you add another mod. Prices vary widely based on whom does the tuning and how. Just some food for thought.

True that.....dyno alone is normally 75-85 just for 3 pulls

Ah that makes sense, I didn't realize they use encryption and such. But, with so much emphasis in the computing world on open-source hardware and software, I don't think it would be impossible. Sounds more like a time/money issue.

SCT devices can connect to a lot of different cars, the one from injected probably could to, but the actually tuning files are what need to be unique and there are large numbers of variables, with PCM codes right down to what is changeable on each car, tuning a turbo is different than tuning a NA car, even if tuning software is available, for the ST it is from Cobb most people do not have the knowledge to tune the car effectively. The price they are charging is more than fair for the amount of work it takes to get a tune to work and not torpedo the engine.
