'14 Fusion to get 1.5L 3-Cylinder Ecoboost

Surprise. First I've heard of this engine. Perhaps Ford will also put it in the Focus for the '14 model year?

A 1.5L in a midside sedan, ecoboost or not, seems way too small.

Why not?
They put the 2.0 turbo in the Explorer.

Technically the 2.0L made as much horsepower as the 3.0 L V6 that they put in the older Fusion and Escape, which is still more than the 3.0 L that they put in the Freestyle which also weighed about 4000 lbs.

Seems like something the Focus should get, not the Fusion. Power numbers are slightly lower than the 1.6t than the Fusion has now, and fuel economy would get a marginal bump. I don't really get the point of adding another engine choice to the Fusion lineup, and I wouldn't even be surprised if this turns out to be false rumoring. We'll see.

I also wonder if this is a 150% scale 1.0L, or 3/4 of the 2.0L...

A marginal bump in fuel economy should be all it needs to tie or slightly exceed the current fuel economy champ(s). That could be all they're trying to do with this new engine choice.

it's too small for the car... It will do like the 1.6L in the escape...

For me this size of engine is for the fiesta-accent-sonic-versa etc.

I would never buy a car with an engine smaller than a 2.0L 4 cylinders

Considering the 1.5 hooks up to the select shift automatic, it probably will land in the Focus at some point.
