had a play with the DSLR today

hi guys

got myself a new DSLR cam today and took some piccis...i`m an absolute noob in the photography thing but i think they are quite ok for a quick play with the cam not really knowing what i`m doing...

Looks great! What camera and lens are you using? Whenever you're taking pictures of cars—regardless of the camera—it tends to look better when the camera is down at the headlight level.

thanks for the hint mate. as i said i am an absolute noob in photography and these were the first pic taken with the new cam.

it is a nikon d5100 with a nikkor 18-55mm lens

What's with the weird bluring effect? Aperture effect of some sort? I thought there was something in my contacts.

D5100 is a nice camera. We have one that we use occasionally at work. I highly suggest the 35mm f/1.8 lens for your first prime lens. It's incredibly sharp, has lightning-fast autofocus, and is only $200 brand new (they're about $170-180 used in nice condition).

That would be back-to-front, not straight top-to-bottom. Also, the blur in the photos is pretty clearly from post processing, rather than shallow depth of field.
