2.3 Head swap or bore out 2.0 block

So I have the 2.3 cylnder head and i have many questions considering that my parts are becoming a pile and its getting warmer(build time).
I also apologize if i sound like a newbie or an idiot lol.

If i just swap the 2.3 head is it possible to just bore out the 2.0 block and just add 2.3 internals( rods, pistons, crank).

If this is something worth it. What would you recommend?

If doing this would the numbers be any different from just swapping it??

Whats estimated numbers before a FI setup.

The reason im asking is because its not as easy as i thought to buy a good 2.3 with decent or low miles. I didnt want to take a risk buying a high mile 2.3. I dont mind the extra work. It would just be nice to get some interesting info. From some good people. Thanks in advance.

The 23 has a higher deck height. The 23 has a 8.973'' deck height compared to the 20's 8.540'' one. No mix & match of the two. You'll need to go all the way if your going w/ a 23. Yeah, you could throw a 23 head on board & bore your 20 out. But no 23 components= no 23 cranks or pistons. I'll just go for a 23 & that'll get you some grunt.

With a half inch shim to one of the motor mounts, the ecu for the D23 (or a tune to adjust your D20 ecu) , an aftermarket oil catch can, and that is about it. For us D20 guys, we would probably go aftermarket IM and the tune from Tom to make it work. Other than that it should be one of the easiest/ "direct" swaps in the Focus world.

Yup. Use your 20 intake manifold. I'd add a set of mild cams= like crane #224-0010 & a header.

What would that do? Keeping the 20 manifold?

I would use the 2.3 manifold and TB if you go with the 2.3 head on a 2.0 engine , like stated if its in the budget I would do cams and surface the head about .030-.040

Tom
