Steering-wheel audio controls and Bluetooth adapters

On my 2004 Focus, I'm using a 12V Bluetooth adapter to play Audible books from my Android smartphone through my Focus's speakers. In thick traffic, I pause the book by depressing a button on the adapter. For safety, I'd like to be able to pause a book without removing my hand from the steering wheel.

I'm thinking of buying a 2007 Focus SES, one with audio controls on the steering wheel. Since the 2007 Focus lacked Bluetooth, I would still need to use an adapter. Could these controls let me pause and restart book played through a Bluetooth adapter?

I havent tried this but I doubt the stock head unit and the steering wheel controls would work in harmony with your bluetooth adapter. Perhaps with an aftermarket headunit that had bluetooth built in and wiring that up to the steering wheel controls could work.

Try calling a company like crutchfield and see if they can recommend something, i know they have few bluetooth ones for less than $100. They also should have an adaptor to get the steering wheel controls working too. Not to mention, pretty much any aftermarket head unit will sound better than stock, especially if you were using an fm modulator to play audio from your phone to your car.

Believe it or not, that's almost welcome news, ramble0n84. All I listen to is books, Since the steering-wheel controls won't make a difference, now I can consider getting a 2006 or 2007 Focus that doesn't have this feature. I don't really need better sound, and it would several hundred dollars in labor and parts to install a head unit and get it working with the factory steering-wheel controls, just for this one feature.
