Costco uses more ethanol than my local Shell/Chevron.

I get an average 2mpg decrease on Costco.

That 15-20 cents cheaper per gallon doesn't end up saving you money if you have less fuel efficiency.

I'm at 28.8 mpg this tank on costco 93 octane and I drive like a madman. I have intake and exhaust so my car is probably running almost dangerously lean. Like the 5.0 in the mustang I think this engine is designed to run on 87 octane but is optimized with 93 octane. While you might see a bump in power, gas mileage is supposed to remain unchanged. I have no scientific data to back this up but i always thought I did a tad better on premium though. Getting back to the lean thing, apparently under hard driving I might overheat and melt something. I saw on here that the premium gas would help. I don't know how true that is though and I haven't noticed any problems. Grated I only have 11,000 miles on my car though.

The PCM is always running closed loop in the MK3 Focus.
It should not be running lean at all even with an intake and exhaust.

Get the Costco American Express Card and you get an additional 3% kickback on your gas purchases (Costco gas, and any other gas purchases)

Our friends own a gas station, I assure you all gas is not the same. That is possibly the worst thing you can believe.

Not only is there a difference in detergent, but there's a difference in the maintenance of the equipment used to mix, deliver, and store the fuel. This is also why you should NEVER get gas if you see a fuel truck at the gas station. All the dirt and sediment at the bottom of the tanks get mixed up and end up in your car.

I told my friend about this like 2 days ago! He's 32 and had never heard of that before.

EDIT: As to its validity - I have no idea. But better safe than sorry.

I've only ever used costco on my current focus and my old '00 focus. I've never had any issues whatsoever. I've filled up when the gas trucks are there and again never had any issues. Where I live costco's can see gas trucks 2x daily (my wife works at coscto so i get the inside scoop on this kinda stuff). I get any where from 22 to 27 all city driving (and driving like a granny). The only difference I see is a 20-30 cent difference between the chevron across the street

It's crazy how people don't know about that. And it all gets into the fuel system.

We don't have Costco's in Oklahoma but I see somebody says their Sams has gas 20-30 cents a gallon cheaper than the competition. Thats unbeilivable, here in Tulsa Oklahoma Sam's is at the most 3 cents cheaper than the competition. I wish we would get 20-30 cents off.

I can vouch for this.We had a Family service station back in 80's.The other problem is water that builds up from condensation in the under ground tanks. We had a special gell to put on the dipstick to keep track of how much was in there because it settles to the bottom. The gel would change color up to the water line, usally an inch or less.A fresh load definately stirs it up.The pipes dont go all the way to the bottom of the tank for this reason.I'm not sure how they deal with it these days.
