TBH I don't remember the details but I'm 99% positive that is how we broke the crank nut free.

you did that on crank pulley, not on cam pulleys :)

I just made this mistake! Literally tonight, I forgot the tool was there and bent it. I assumed I would be able to access it via oil pan, pulled it off to find that I can only access it through a small hole.

Is my only option to remove the upper pan? I really hope there is an easier way. I have the tools/knowledge to do it, but would not like the labor. I hate messing with the exhaust. OP, how did you remove the hot air fitting connected to the cat?

I'll try to snap some pics tomorrow, I'm done for the night. Simple timing belt turns into a s@!t-show. :(

I haven't, yet. >.<
Between school (finals!), work, and my limited available time because I'm in an apartment and can't work on it at night, it's still sitting.

Even my narrow hacksaw can't get a blade at it.

I did fabricate a tool to with a hook on the end, and am hoping it works. I'll be trying to test it tonight or Friday, and will put up pictures if it does.

a long jigsaw would be perfect, maybe I'll have to create something of my own! lol

What are you hoping to do with a hook? Bend it back? I would think you risk screwing up the threads if you did this. That is a lot of horizontal pressure.

Here is my refined idea: buy a long skinny hacksaw blade (pictured). Weld/attach onto it a round, or thin flat, piece of steel. Bend it, if needed, to fit into view hole. Go to town on it! Have you tried something like this?

Use these actions wisely!!!!

Update: So I managed to get the tool out. Here's how:

The tool was bent at about a 45. Probably the same as many since that is the angle the crankshaft forced upon it. I noticed that if I backed the crank onto it, it would hit it at the opposite side, reverse to the bend.

I used a socket on the crank to give the tool a couple sharp smacks and it bent back and cracked at the vertex. I bent it a little more and the long piece fell through the bottom. The crank bolt loosened up a time or two but I just gave it a little impact love and it seemed to give me a couple extra swings.

I put the original bolt back in and it threaded in nicely, even when torqued.

I will say, this method may not be recommended since it means reversing the rotation of the crank, but it was better than other options. The system is all timed up now and running as it should. I only ended up having to remove the oil pan.

Hope this helps someone, maybe even the OP!
