Removing speed limiter?

Hey, I'm wondeirng if there's a way to remove the speed limiter without buying a SCT or other chip.

I'm going to an autocross in Windom Minnesota where there will be 3 auto-x runs each on a reportedly BA course, followed by 3 top speed runs each over a 1/2 mile. While I doubt i'd even break the 105mph mark in half a mile I'd be pissed if I did and lost my legal, relatively safe, opportunity to go that fast in my autotragic beast

I've got dunlop direzza star specs, which are v rated- 149 mph so no problem there.

The only way that I know for sure is tuning it out, there must be another way though someone will chime in

Actually, from what I've read the getrag tranny only tops out ~7mph more than the mtx-75 which of course is pointless because the zx3 has such a high coefficient of drag that I don't believe anyone has even taken it up past 165.

Anyhow, the topspeed is electronically limited so no, there's no way short of a tune to eliminate the speed limiter. You could however borrow someone's svt as we don't have a topspeed governor

pretty sure there is a governor on the svt's its at 125 if im not mistaken. or maby im thinking of the svt contours... anyway there no chance you will get over 108 in a 1/2 mile so dont worry about it, there is also no way to get rid of the governor without a tune. you COULD disconnect the speed sensor from the ECU but then you dont know how fast you're going and that still might not work and it might make the car not run correctly. unless you come around a curve going into the 1/2 mile strait going 90+mph you wont get over 108mph

Nope, no governor on the focus svt's

But yes, you're right, he won't hit the speed limiter in a 1/2 mile.

The nly reason the svt tops(145-147) is drag. but overcoming the drag it will do alot more.

The only way to remove the limiter is with a tune.

lol without drag I could build a super-tall geared 10hp car and top it out at 300mph. I was referring to physical limit due to the gearing in the respective transmissions. There was a guy in Europe going for 175mph in his highly modified RS but many argued that a focus would need insane hp and extreme aero work due to ridiculous coefficient of drag that a zx3 has.

the 2011 AMERICAN RELEASE RS focus will have an estimated top speed of 167 STOCK and the body style hasnt really improved much at all aerodynamically.

EDIT: the car looks basically the same as the euro model just with a slightly different front bumper and headlight shape.
