The no emissions testing is nice.

I got a warning for having 45% tint. Apparently 50% is the legal limit... I even got pulled over once after I removed all my tint because "my windows looked to dark".It sucks being pulled over by cops who are profiling because I have a "flashy car".

Their argument for why they made tint illegal is that cops need to be able to "see inside your vehicle to keep officers safe". I'm not going to do anything to harm an officer, but they have absolutely no right to be able to see inside my vehicle if I don't want them to. You can tint the windows on your house as dark as you want, or have no windows at all but they don't throw a fit about that...

Im about to do tint on my ST, planning on going 35% all around. Hope I don't get stopped! MN tint laws suck. 50% isn't even worth it IMO.

If you are in Minneapolis you will almost definitely be stopped for that much... I think the Focus is like 60% or something like that from the factory.

There was a thread on a MN Subaru thread about an eye doctor that would give out prescriptions for tint if you asked, but I don't think he's around anymore. From now on before I go to my eye exams I am going to ask if the doctor would give me a tint prescription because I get bad headaches when I squint while driving in the sun. I can't wear sunglasses over my eye glasses and tinting my car windows is cheaper than getting prescription sunglasses. I asked my current eye doctor but he said no so I won't be going back to him. I don't know of any doctors that are more liberal with their tint prescriptions but I am going to call around before I go into my next eye exam. Sorry to be so

Here in Illinois, it's 35%, excluding driver & passenger.

No worries. I've been looking for a doc too but haven't been able to find one. What I don't understand is why SUVs and Trucks can have rear windows tinted as much as they want but front windows can't be. Cars you can't tint anything... I just don't get it.

I would love to see stats saying tinted windows lead to lower safety rates for police officers.

agreed, I don't see the logic saying this SUV can have tinted windows but if this car does, I don't feel safe when I pull them over.

If someone could explain that to me I would love to hear why.

Yeah me too... if someone is doing something illegal they will usually do it with or without tinted windows. It just ruins it for the rest of us that like it for aesthetics reasons or because of the sun/squinting issue.

I think the reason is that cops don't want to have to get a search warrant to get in your car so they just say you can't tint the windows so they can see in anytime they want. I think that is ridiculous. Government is trying to keep control....
