I've considered either removing the inner carpet from one fender, then building a shelf around the fender with magical magnetic doors and re-fixing the carpet to over it.

Or, leaving the carpet in, building a shelf over the fender with a lip to keep the tools from sliding out, painting the shelf's with bed liner, and then perhaps add sliding plastic doors.

Kind of what I'm wanting.

As long as it holds up to high corner loads.

Yeah, Sometimes I forget how much cornering these things can really take... you'd need to place magnetic strips like these:

make a false floor type thing. You can put an amp or some thing if you have an audio system, or you can make several compartments for different tools. Just add pull tabs. Only raise the floor a few inches. Still leaves access to spare tire and such.

I'll be making one for my audio stuff in a month or so and I'll be posting the specs when I finish that project, feel free to take that and modify it however you wish.

Once you do it, send me a PM with a link to the thread in case I miss it. I am interested in it.

I might make one over the summer. I've been wanting to see if the clearance between the wheelwells is 48" or not with all the carpet and padding removed. The whole 46" thing gets on my nerves if I have to haul anything.
