SLOW Windshield wipers

The windshield wipers on my 03 ZTW started moving very slow, like half speed. After disassembling the linkage I found the problem. The passenger side wiper shaft was almost frozen. I ended up having to free it up with a crescent wrench and penetrating oil and finally pressing it out with a bench vise. I cleaned the rust off the shaft with some sand paper and used a gun cleaning brush to clean up the bearings in the linkage frame and greased everything real well. The passenger side was bone dry and starting to rust and the drivers side was still well greased. I guess the drivers side is better protected and or sealed. Also, the wiper arms havenít been off for over ten years so it took a small bearing puller to pop the arms off the shafts, much tougher than I thought it would be. There are a number of similar posts on some Volkswagen sites and while the linkage is different in detail it is similar in concept and I believe both are made by Bosch. Thanks to the Volkswagen guys for pointing me in the right direction. It took about 2-1/2 hours and $0 and should last the remaining life of the car. Hope this helps someone.

This is the linkage assembly...

and this is the shaft that was frozen.
