Since I've put about 30,000km (mostly hwy) on the car, there are quite a few chips in my TB paint :(

There are probably 2-5 small ones in the front (hood, bumper area) and probably twice that amount on the rear bumper area, strangely enough. The hwy I had to use for work did have gravel and sand on it sometimes.

Hmm... Just had a thought... I wonder if mudflaps would help prevent these rear chips?

I have a rock chip right below the rear windshield wiper. Strange place to have one if you ask me. I bought the touch-up paint from Ford (colour code UG if anyone is wondering) and will test it this weekend.

Also a few very tiny chips from making contact with a concrete wall at work while backing the car into the space (I can't drive). :(

I have one small door ding in the middle of my driver's door. I'll need to get that popped out this summer, but fortunately it's really hard to spot. I've had two rock chips which were touched up too.

I also have some scrapes on the underside of the lip, but that was bound to happen. They can't be seen unless you're under the car.

There's also some light swirls in a couple of spots near a wheel arch where dirt was rubbed into the paint (wasn't me).

I was wondering if your friend could post what the measurement was for the paint on our cars. Hopefully they could measure the hood, doors, roof and trunk to see if there is differences in paint thickness.

This tool is used for measure the paint thickness

This is true, especially on our bumpers. My rear bumper has a couple spots where the paint is thinner than the rest. I'm actually considering getting it resprayed someday but then we have the fun of matching it again.

On that note theres places on my inner door skins around the hinge area where it looks like its barely more then over spray on there. Is that the norm I wonder..?

Some of your comments might address my next point regarding the focus paint. Im now finding the paint scratches VERY easily! i was cleaning out my garage and my car was sitting in the driveway. bumped a garden hose against the door, just very lightly. Later, i found 6 long white scratches all over the door that were not there before then.

Another scenario, it was a windy day and my car was parked in the driveway, the wind blew an empty garbage can into my bumper (one of the rubbermaid ones). It couldn't of hit it hard because it was just rolling on the ground. Checked the bumper and there were massive scrap marks all over the bumped.

After reading your comments, I'm thinking this has to do with the very thin paint causing the body to scratch easily. This weekend i'm going to wash and rewax my entire car and see if that helps. Kinda disappointed because my old corolla and civic went through much worst and have less scratches then my focus dispite being 6 years older.

Talked to a friend of mine today at body shop and had Him look at ours , He said the paint is very thin , and the Bumpers and gas door are painted at different times is why they don't match . and if you have Tri-color very hard to match factory blend , so I could be looking at 600 to fix nick in quarter and bumper , dam pearl paint lol
