Newbe here with a trans question

We just purchased a used 2012 Focus with 16000 miles on it. It has a shift issue between 1 and 2 when you start from a light. It feels like the transmission can't decide which gear to be in. I did some reading on the forum and wondered when the last software upgrade was done and if the transmission can "re-learn" from a new owner. I considered disconnecting the battery to reset the transmission based on what I read but I am not sure if I have enough information to be more than dangerous.eAny help from the experts will be much appreciated.

I am by no means an expert but I do know for a fact that disconnecting the negative terminal and then reconnecting it will reset the car to it's factory defaults as well as reset the transmission's computer. This will allow you "reteach" the transmission towards your driving style. Disconnecting the negative terminal is no more dangerous to the car than unplugging a vacuum cleaner, so you should be ok.
