Brake line fittings

I need to replace one of the (front) steel brake lines on my 2000 SPI wagon.

My difficulty: determining the fitting and thread size at both ends (master cylinder and rubber hose going to the caliper. SAE? Metric? Japanese?

A trip to Autozone with the old rubber hose yielded a 40 inch with 3/8-24 fitting that seems to fit OK, although it seemed to fit a little loose, leading me to suspect it might actually need a metric.

The port on the master cylinder is larger, so I got a 3/8-24 to 7/16-24 adapter. That isn't big enough apparently.

Thought I'd ask before I start running back and forth doing random tests, or ruin threads on something expensive and difficult.

P.S. I've replaced brake lines on a number of cars before without undue difficulty, so I'm not a total noob. This is the first time on the Focus, though.

Sorry for putting it in the wrong place. I was fooled by the ads integrated into the headings. I never ever click on anything that looks like an ad....

OK, figured it out by making the folks at autozone take new master cylinder and hose out and trying lines and adapters till I found what fit.

M10x1.0 Metric.

I was about to say it might be metric. I checked with my brother at his auto parts store and he said it would probably be metric but he wasn't completely sure. I was just waiting on him to call me back with the definite answer. But never mind now since you figured it out on your own lol.
