better oil filter?

I have about 6K on my oil change so far and my oil is looking darker than I would like. I would like to try an Amsoil or Royal Purple filter and see if that makes a difference. Where is the best place to pick one of these up from? Will it keep your oil cleaner than the motorcraft one I'm using now? I'm also using Mobil 1 but it doesn't seem to be as clean as I remember it being in the mid 90's when I used to use it, has the formula changed?

After 6,000 miles oil will look dark no matter what filter you use. Color or darkness of the oil doesn't tell if the oil is good or not. You'd need an oil analysis to tell you that.

I always use OEM or Wix filters. Just personal preference though.

I would just change the oil. I am not a fan of using full synthetic to get a longer oil change interval. I know a lot of people are. I would rather get some fresh semi-synthetic oil in the engine sooner, and then the filter doesn't matter as long as you use the OEM or better and don't use a Fram. Also, how many miles are on the vehicle? If it is still low miles running full synthetic, it may need a little longer to fully break in and seat the rings, thus the oil will get darker quicker.

I have changed my own oil for many years. I use Mobil One oil, and the OEM filter. The Motorcraft filter.
The 2012 is supposed to change at 10,000 miles. I changed mine at 5,000 and was not really pleased wit hthe shape the oil seemed to be in.So next time I will go with 4,000 mi
The stock Motorcraft filter is very good.

Motorcraft filters are highly rated. IIRC they are made by Purolator.
