Mazda is trying, but, hasn't learned anything from Ford

http://www.autoguide.com/manufacture...view-2427.html

When Mazda brought out the "SkyActiv" technology, it certainly had a lot of promise (and to be fair, they did get much better mileage than thier predessors, but, owning a 2010 Mazda 3 myself, it wouldn't take much.. they were pathetic on gas really), but, as evidenced by Mazda changing the engine already with only one year into production, they have admitted they missed the mark again. This new 2.5 Skyactiv is a step in the right direction, but, from owner's of them, still not quite making the grade, unlike its competition, the 2.0 Ecoboost Escape, where owners are generally in love and no shortage of power.
I love this quote from an owner on that page:
Quote:
I have a 2014 CX-5 AWD GT. The advertised gas mileage is a lie. It only gets 20-22 with combined highway and city (approx. 50%-50%). Mazda will not do anything but deny the reality that their advertising is completely inaccurate. If others are experiencing the same thing, hopefully this will eventually lead to a class action lawsuit similar to Hyundai suit. It is a beautiful vehicle, but do not buy it for the gas milage claims.
So, slightly less mpgs, and only very marginal increase in power.... and no diesel engine as promised... You're doing it wrong Mazda... LOL (I used to love thier products, and, as I said, owned one, but, I don't get what they are trying to do now..)

Probably scrambling to keep up , like microsoft and the tablet market... Being conservative and not changing isnt allways a good business plan.

It is what it is, cx5's. If you want mpg out of a cx5 you could a get the 2.0L. I don't care for any of those. Mpg & suv's usally don't go together. The 1.6 turbo in the escape is a great compermise for mpg & power. Mazda is road racing their 6's w/ diesels.

Mazda is slipping in the powertrain and quality department. My wife didn't keep her Mazda 3 SkyActiv for more than half a year. She now has a Mazda 3 2.5 GT. She loves it. Fuel mileage sux, but having the old Duratec/MZR engine and old automatic is great, plus the car is quiet and nicer due to not being de-contented to save weight and improve mileage.

We had constant problems from the first week of ownership of the SkyAciv and it took an act of Congress to get Mazda to ever admit the issues were real. The car had okay power, but the mileage, while good, was not what they claimed and the car was just cheap. So sad.

She originally wanted a CX5 and I said no because I knew it would be a gas hogging turd in the real world with just the 2.0l.

My observations were pretty much identical, although I didn't have a SkyActiv, but, my 2010 was a 2.5 6 speed, and I did like the car, but, the mileage sucked (especially for a 4 cyl), and I felt the interior was cheap (not as bad as the 2.0).
