MK3 Focus not one of the 'Disappointing Dozen'

Reading the news threads and saw this:

Consumer Reports:
"These vehicles fall way below our threshold to be recommended. Take a look at our disappointing dozen—the cars Consumer Reports has recently tested with the lowest test scores."

http://autos.yahoo.com/news/the-disa...223026019.html

Didn't look at the rest of the list of cars they don't like but the Focus is not one of their favorite cars (CR doesn't like MFT, repeated citations), luddites, the lot of them. I subscribe to CR but sometimes their recommendations really piss me off, they are crap on audio systems for example. They give weightings in their ratings to things that I sometimes consider trivial and/or critical. Still, Focus owners did not make THIS list and that has to be a plus... Doesn't it?

They give it a total score right in the middle of the range of automatic compacts. So it's understandable it's not in their bottom 10 of all cars.

What doesn't make sense is they give it a "poor" reliability score on "transmission-minor", but all other reliability ratings are "excellent." But they give it an overall poor reliability rating. So apparently the overall reliability rating is simply taken as the lowest of all the individual ratings instead some sort of weighted average. Because of that, I give their whole reliability rating system a "poor".

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara was rated the lowest for being exactly what it was designed to be. I didn't bother to read the rest of them after seeing that.

Yup. I gave up on consumer reports, especially for cars, decades ago. They've picked such winners as the Chevy greats Vega and Citation.

Love this line Kam, and I agree totally with the CR ratings process.
They were a great rating journal for household appliances and the like... they should have stuck with that and not moved into other sectors, like autos.

CR rates EVERYTHING from a soccer mom's point of view. Anything that has a learning curve is a big no-no.

That is the best explanation for CR's reviews I've ever seen. Well done.
