A little more research leads me to this:



Which is a 19.5 x 6.75 in. wheel with 8x200 spacing, as Tom Dually requires. I could get a set of 4 of these, with 2 matching steelies for the inner duals, plus tires, all for about 2500. I can expect to get 150k plus miles from the tires, and doing the math, I get, from 265/70R19.5 tires, an effective gear ratio of 3.69:1 instead of 4.10 (the tire is about 3 inches bigger in diameter than OEM tires). 595 revs per mile vs. 663 revs per mile, IIRC. So, this accomplishes pretty much everything....

No decisions yet, just spitballin', see where they stick.

Just watch your spacing w/ the tires mounted. 19.5's are the stock size on 450/550's.

Only because they're commercial truck tires rated for MUCH more weight than I'll be carrying EVER. Tradeoff will be a hard ride when I'm not towing. Fuel economy and tread life are the reason for the whole thing. Fuel economy because of larger diameter tires equate to a taller gear ratio.

Question..why not an egr delete instead? I just picked up my 7.3 a couple days ago. Didn't want to get into dumping the cash to bulletproof a 6.0

Thats what I've done & a get the oil cooler out of the motor & behind the bumper. A 73 is great too. Pay attention to fuel filters.

Annually, the State of Louisiana shoves a probe up his tailpipe to measure emissions to keep the idiot tree huggers happy. I don't dare delete, so I bulletproof. It's not much different in price from a delete kit anyway.

And, I might add, in my opinion, a 7.3 is the best diesel motor ever available in a Ford light truck. I started a thread on that over in the F-series talk on the sister forum to FocusFanatics.
