I'm ready to pull the trigger on a roof rack for my '12 SE Hatch. I've decided on the Yakima round bar system. I like the Thule "look" better, but already have a few accessories for a round bar system, enough so that it drops the price enough to make the switch to Thule impractical.

My questions are these....

(1) - Where to buy? Local? Amazon? Other? I'm looking for decent service should I have a problem, and don't mind spending an extra $20-30 to get it on a $400 purchase like this.

I always support my LBS (local bike shop) unless their prices are considerably different than an online retailer. A small difference is worth it to me. Just Google the part numbers and compare - most often a LBS will match prices to keep a customer happy.

(2) - Most everyone has fork mount trays. Anyone running a tray that allows the bike to stand upright, and NOT remove the front wheel? the Yakima FrontLoader looks nice, but is pricey. Worth it? Not worth it? Thoughts?

I've never used one.

(3) - Is the front "windscreen" worth the $60 on the Yakima round bar system? I don't care horribly about MPG, but whistling with the sunroof open will get on my nerves quickly. I know some additional noise is expected though. Any thoughts on this issue?

I think you're going to get howling with or sans the air deflector. Is it worth $60 just to get a little less?

Thanks again for the information thusfar!

2 - It's personal preference

3 - You never want to run the sun roof open with a roof rack. The wind buffeting is horrible. If you have any round bars, you'll want to fairing on the front of the rack...to decrese wind noise.

Thanks for the advice guys.

As always before I went and bought new I had to check craigslist. Found this and priced the items separately and decided that it was a pretty good deal. Went and picked it up after dinner tonight.

Need to order a new set of clips and clean the stickers off the fairing. Hoping to have it installed for the weekend.

If you're having trouble with the fit, the Q5/Q83 combination didn't work for me, either. Yakima originally recommended Q128s front and rear and these worked great. Yakima then changed the fitment to Q5/Q83 and replaced mine. These didn't work at all for me and were, in my judgement, dangerously insecure. I went back to the 128s and all's well. Yakima, while a fine company, was remarkably unhelpful with this problem.
