I just picked up my Focus this weekend and want to move my Yakima roof rack from my Mazda 3 to the Focus. Does the focus have a track or mounting points under the black strips on the outside edges of the roof? I had the same strips on my Mazda 3 which had hard mounting points under the strips. The rack bolted right down to the hard mounting points using Yakima Control Towers.

Thanks

You will need Q Towers and clips to get it to work.

Here is a standard round-bar Yakima rack on my focus. You have to use Q-Clips and Towers. I have scratches on the roof now from installing it a few times.

It does work well, though.

Are the Q clips what damage the car? Isnt there a rubber backing on them?

Is it me or are your round bar towers more tapered in them the square or aero bars?

Help with rack

So there's been tons of discussion on this; however, I haven't been able to find ANY reviews on this rack... any input?

http://www.prolineracks.com/proline-...ter-racks.html

I don't have 200+ to drop on a roof rack, after buying my kayak, so I'm trying to go the cheap way out, without using just foam bumpers and racket straps. I used that method to bring said kayak home. It made my roof bow and didn't feel secure enough for me on the highway.

I think the linked product would work but want some info before I buy. I've never installed a roof rack to date...previous vehicle had base rack stock. Thanks for any guidance!

As others have said, nothing under the black strips. If Ford really wanted to give us the full "European" experince, this would be a cheap and simple thing to add. Maybe it's the liability issue.

I have a Yakima rack for my Focus. Two things to point out:

1) Yakima specifies 60 inch crossbars for the Focus. I've found my old 48 inch bars work fine, but with no room to spare. I expect the bars you have are 48s: try them before you buy longer.

2) Yakima originally specified Q128 clips for the Q Towers on the Focus. These worked perfectly for me. Yakima then recalled them, replacing the with Q5s in front and Q83s rear. I returned mine for the new ones, but the new ones didn't work at all well, and seemed downright dangerous to me. So I went back to the 128s. The lesson here is if you go the Yakima route, buy them from a reputable local retailer (e.g. REI) so you can get help or return them.

3) Of course, I'm not advocating ignoring Yakima's advice; just sharing my experience.

OK, I've read through this thread twice. Tons of great info. Many thanks to those who have posted along the way!

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a roof rack for my '12 SE Hatch. I've decided on the Yakima round bar system. I like the Thule "look" better, but already have a few accessories for a round bar system, enough so that it drops the price enough to make the switch to Thule impractical.

My questions are these....

(1) - Where to buy? Local? Amazon? Other? I'm looking for decent service should I have a problem, and don't mind spending an extra $20-30 to get it on a $400 purchase like this.

(2) - Most everyone has fork mount trays. Anyone running a tray that allows the bike to stand upright, and NOT remove the front wheel? the Yakima FrontLoader looks nice, but is pricey. Worth it? Not worth it? Thoughts?

(3) - Is the front "windscreen" worth the $60 on the Yakima round bar system? I don't care horribly about MPG, but whistling with the sunroof open will get on my nerves quickly. I know some additional noise is expected though. Any thoughts on this issue?

Thanks again for the information thusfar!
