Wait a min, you have a pzev? the first gen pzevs came with the 2.3.

I didn't know they continued those into the 1.5 gen. 2.3 is a bit more powerful and being a pzev means it good on emissions.

The 2.3 first gens are known as a factory sleepers, and if you can find a 2.3 focus wagon with a 5 speed. They call those unicorns.

Sorry I got off subject, I got a little excited. I bet you have a 2.3 and not the 2.0. Awesome!

Car looks great and the brakes are a added bonus. I hope you can figure out the electrical issues. Check out the technical section and as your question there. Should get more help that way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the pzev was an ultra clean version of the 2.0L in 2006- aka, the 20E? I was looking it up and it sounded like the pzev was only on 2.0l. What's wierd is, the autocheck didn't have it listed that way, but a relay listed in the owners manual as pzev only was in the fuse box under the hood. The emissions sticker is missing, so I'm not really sure how to tell which it actually is. It was originally purchased in Maine, and I know they were selling California emissions standard cars there in 06... So... Which do I have?

It may only be a 2.0 in the 2006. I didn't even know they still had the pzev in that year of car. From 01-04 the pzev was a 2.3. simular to the 2.3 that came in the ST. I believe the only real differance between the 2.3 in the pzev and the 2.3 in the ST was the intake, tune, and the pzev had a extra cat.

Yes it was meant for california, florida, ect... those states the had strict emission standard. But its not out of the ordinary to find one else where.

Thank you for posting those pics! I am an early to bed early to rise type, so I missed it last night, but found your photos early this morning.

I'd be ecstatic to have that car for the price you paid. Looks like the Cruise is an easy fix (and I feel good about teasing you into going out there to take pictures, since during the shoot you found the reason for the cruise not working). It has been nicely blacked out, something that seems to be quite in style. I think you can have a lot of fun doing little projects on that car, and there are TONS of ideas on what to do on this forum. I'm almost jealous, because I have a MK3 and there is NOTHING to speak of for our cars. No tuners, very few accessories, especially performance ones. You will have many choices. Congratulations on a great buy!

Haha, yeah- I was a bit relieved to see it was just the cable, can't be that hard to change out. I did the self check CC test and it pulls and operates, so yay.

Ill have to get some better photos, just got her legal today! Yes- I am ecstatic! I've had two newer cars, both VW's, a beetle TDI and a Passat 1.8t I got in a trade for a jeep. The tdi was $325/payments and the passat was huge and too heavy for the motor. Both coming with the uber expensive vw parts department! Gah! I own this one outright, it's gets out of its own way and looks pretty sleek. Yeah, I was kind of annoyed with the little issues and the few dings in the paint (seller made it out a lot better), but it really was a good deal! And while I love VW styling and design, they are really expensive vehicles to own and had a lot o wierd issues, as well as $900 timing belt changes every 50K- so I'm happy to have a domestic make that's a lot cheaper and easier to work on! ;) I really have a different outlook on ford now.

I'd love to swap to rear discs, and maybe make just a bit peppier, get an oil preassure gauge and what not. But first, gonna do something about the little dents and dings and the electricals. Tint too! This thing needs tint, and a way to hook up an iPod! :)

The rear disc brake swap is simple. Been done a million times. The 2006 ST had them from the factory. I THINK the ST's and Cali's were the only 2.3s in '06 but I may be wrong. Use a vindecoder like
http://www.decodethis.com/
to know for sure. Unfortunately Ford continues to keep all the best things in Europe, but these American versions have a lot of great influence from them. They are fun, economical, relatively easy to mod, and affordable.
Looks like a good find. Hope you love it.

Well this
http://gtcarlot.com/data/Ford/Focus/2006/
says ONLY the ST, and only 1.3% of Focuses sold in 2006 had the 2.3.

And they can't put it on the internet if it isn't true

Well, it's definetly a 2.0L SES, unless they were in the habit of badging ST's with SES instead. ;) the autocheck has it listed as 2.0l too. What I was trying to figure out was how do you know if you have the pzev option? I read something about the 8th character being a way to tell with your vin- either a 3 or an 8? But mines an N... So that's not right... According to this: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=261129 if it was sold in Maine, it's pzev..? I guess from 05 and 07 at least, it was standard in those emmission states as an option to the 2.0l, it also has slightly less horsepower, but less emissions ... I guess that's good for me though, don't want stay in Florida forever :)

So from a little brief reading, it would seem (but I'm not 100%) a PZEV has an air pump and THREE o2 sensors. A NON-PZEV has no air pump and TWO o2 sensors.. but if you decode that VIN it should tell you. Or call your local Ford dealer parts department with the last 8 digits of your VIN and they should tell you. If not PM me your last 8 I know for a fact my parts dept will tell me.

Also I haven't tried it with my Focuses because I've bought all three of them new, but with my wife's used Jeep I went to Chrysler with the VIN and they printed me the whole birth sheet. Date final assembly was checked off, where, how many miles after Quality Check was complete, every single option on it, everything.
