A few questions from a new buyer

Well, a second-type new buyer, anyway.

Around this time last year, I bought a 2012 Focus Titanium HB with the A6 for my (now ex)wife. I really liked it, the MPG was fantastic, and I liked the features.

In the meantime, I bought a 2008 Mazda3 M5 Grand Touring Sedan. I really like the car, and have no issues other than fairly dismal MPG compared to other cars in its segment. It has quite a few nifty features, like the heated leather seats, HIDs, auto headlights and wipers, etc. My average MPG is 28.5 with roughly 50/50 city/hwy.

I am looking at purchasing a 2013 Focus Titanium Sedan M5 to replace the Mazda3 for daily driver duty. Since I already know the car and its features, my main concerns are the unfamiliar parts: Those with the manual transmission, how is your MPG? Any mechanical issues or quirks? The way I understand it, the Focus has the same transmission as the Mazda3 (the MTX-75).

I know there was a big issue during my 2012 ownership with the MFT, have these issues mostly been resolved? Has a new update come out?

Thanks in advance.

MPG with the 5MT has been better than advertised, in our experience. In usual suburban driving, it reads 32.5 on the onboard mpg gauge. With some highway driving mixed in, we average 35 on the gauge. Straight highway has been greater than the EPA estimate of 36.

We absolutely love driving the Focus with the 5MT, too.

Most of the MFT bugs have been ironed out with version 3.5.1 There are still a few glitches but nothing like version 2.11 had. The system is much more usable now.

I've averaged ~27 with my 5MT (4 mile commute to work, 9 traffic lights), but I got it in November, only have 300 miles on it and have only driven it when it was cold with winter gas. I highly suspect when the weather warms up a bit more and I start driving it again, I should see a few mpg bump.

Long story short, I'm seeing better than EPA estimates currently and that is non-ideal circumstances.

My 5MT get about 19 round trip on my commute. Its 3 miles, all hills, all stop lights at the top and bottom of them... worst case scenario really. My Ranger averages 10-12 in it. But I travel a lot on the weekend so it's usually 34mpg a tank.

I'm hitting 33-35 mpg per fillup, and I fill up 2x per week. Bought it Feb 14 2013, almost 2k miles on it already.
I thought I finally had everything figgered out. I finally had a handle on things and on my life. Nope. Just turns out I don't give a shit anymore.
