I got my clevites from rockauto for cheap. I bought enough to do them all, if I can find the ones I didn't use I will send them to you for a few bucks if you want to pull the pan and try them. If the noise goes away temporarily at least you know that's it I guess. I actually lucked out on my engine.e because I found a guy a couple hours away with a Focus junkyard who put it in for 1400 including tranny, all the acessories, new wire harness (turns out the one on the replacement had something different for the a/c, apparently they changed harnesses mid year in 05, axles, and a rear wheel bearing while I spent the night with an old friend at a casino. He also has a plastic welder so he fixed my headlight housing while I was there. Sometimes you get lucky.

I've got a few local sources that will sell me parts at wholesale. I'm going to start calling around to local junkyards over the next few days just to price out an engine. If I could get an engine with 14k installed for $1400 I would go for it. That's a great price! I'm praying that I can alleviate the problem with some bearings, but if not I'm sure I'll find an engine for a decent price somewhere. Thanks again!

Few more questions for you guys. The crank girdle on this engine is all one piece? Can it be removed and will the crank rest okay on the seals or do I need to hold it up somehow? Also, any one have information on the main bearing and connecting rod caps torque figures? I have been able to track down something for the connecting rod caps but nothing anywhere for the main bearing bolts?

Can any of these bolts be reused? Honestly? If not where can I buy new ones. The more I learn about these engines the more it appears that they weren't intended to be rebuilt, but I know people have done it before. Any help on torque figures or procedures would be excellent. So far it looks like 1 and 4 rod bearings were flaking, but not 2 and 3. The crank looks good thus far, but we won't know for sure until I can look at the mains. The bearings don't have any locks on them? How do they stop the bearings from spinning inside the rod caps?

Its in the way they are designed. But they can be "spun" that's what happened to me, one was spun 90 degrees.

Update for anyone interested: The mains cannot be checked without pulling the engine. So I've ordered some rod bearings and we're going to go back together. BSD should be here soon. I'll be back on the road fairly quickly.

Rockauto doesn't have them? I reused mine. They didn't come apart.
