so its all complete now.
I was waiting on parts to ship from HongKong (so cheap).
The big resistors did the trick.

The wiring diagram in the first post is the final diagram.

the whole point of this, other than the challenge of it, was to install a Euro grill and clean up the front end. I went with the slat grill rather than the honeycomb, because it matched the lower grill.

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

this is how i packaged it all together to sheild it from water (except I added the resistor after this pic), and i just bolted the whole thing under the headlight.

now that I have an understanding of how it all works, Its not that hard to wire in the front parking lights to illuminate the fog lights at half power in case anyone still wanted that feature. i'll sketch it up tomorow

Dude, awesome job. That looks like a stock CTS setup. 99% of people won't know it's not stock.

Aside from the flares and black wheels, most people would think that's stock. Cops especially.

Cops definately don't notice my car. I've never been pulled over for speeding or any other moving violation. Not saying that I'm a speed demon, but I do enjoy my car from time to time.

on the flip side, noone else notices it. That most recent picture was at a large car meet, almost nobody stopped to look at my car. Maybe it was because I was the only focus (out of 1000 cars) and everybody else only has eyes for s2000s, miata, s240 and FRS's

Well, it works both ways. Better to fly under the radar all the time than drive a bright red Evo with a TiAL BOV and a 3" straight pipe.

I've had some comments about variations on this wiring, so i though i woud post up two of them

this is if you wanted to use LED fog lights. All i did was move the resistor a bit.

this one is if you wanted to still have functional front parking lights. I added another resistor and tapped the parking light into the fogs, so your fogs will run at half intensity as park lights, unless you turn your fogs on, then they would be full intensity.

This has really peaked my interest.

Although, i am pretty novice at wiring, but you used two relays for each side right? I'm assuming the two orange wires on the diagram are for the same wire? I've never wired relays before but always up for a challenge, just want to make sure I'm doing it right! Also, when you want to wire the fog light to also be the front parking light at half intensity, when it blinks for the signal it will be at full intensity?

Also on the setup for the parking lights at half intensity, you would need 4 resistors in total, instead of just 2, right?

Which would mean I would need

4 relays
2 diodes
And 4 resistors for my list of things to order?

I THINK that's all the questions I have... For now at least lol.

By the way, your focus looks stunning, and you know what I like how you've kept it looking stock, it gives it a MUCH cleaner look!

Cool, i'm glad someone else will follow. it validates why I posted up.

before you start, i would research into how relays work, the wiring diagram should make so much more sense. They're used for a small current to switch on a large current. also the pin outs (87, 86, 65, 87A and 30) are very important that they be wired in the right spots, or it wont work and will probably blow fuses

I'll try to address your points:
-yes, total 4 relays (2 each side), 2 diodes total, 4 resistors (8ohm and 1.5 ohm)
-the two orange wires do not mean the same wire. I was just trying to group electricity pathes together to keep it easy to see. In this case there is a distinct wire from 87 from the first relay to 86 of the other.
-the fog lights as park lights have not been explicitly tested by me. However, i did the math and the 1.5ohm resistor should give you ~50% intensity. this may need tweaking (a 2 ohm or 1ohm) depending on how bright the bulb actually is.
-if the fog as park lights are at half intensity it should blink at zero intensity [from 50% to 0% to %50, etc]. similar as if the fog lights were on [100%, to 0% to 100%]
