Rear ended!
Well parked on the street for the night when a drunk driver hit my car. Got some quotes from a body shop and they are saying it should just be about 1500$ I wold like to think thats correct but im a little worried. My rear driver brake light is pushed into the car so tight it cant even wiggle, and i cant adjust it. the back hatch door is all jacked up or the car is bent
Good news is his car is toast and of course a pic

You were parked? Get the best body shop you can possibly find. You're not going to pay, this guy is, or if he's uninsured, your insurance must pay, and can't penalize you at all. Be picky picky picky, fixed right or don't sign off! I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that's what one would tell you. Been there, done that!

You didn't have an accident, a drunk a-hole hit your car, it wasn't your fault, don't beat yourself up. The problem with a collision like that, there could be a lot of unseen damage; frame, fuel line, floor pan and the damage could be to all the way up front, who knows until they get it into the shop. $1500 seems a little low even for what we can see in the pic. If he's insured, take it to the best shop in town, make his insurance pay for what he did. I hope the cops hauled his ass off to jail.

That looks like $3k minimum. Frame is likely tweaked if he was going fast enough. Sway, strut, wheel, can all be affected in addition to the bumper, hatch, etc.

Make sure they don't quote you non-OEM parts, this is often a tactic they use to lower the cost. I had a car that received Hurricane damage once and saw the quote, $1200 non-oem parts, after I requested OEM the bill was over $2K+, mainly glass.

That sucks, man! Glad you are okay. Hope the fix goes smoothly and let us know how it all turns out.

Yea I got the inssurance info today from the cops. It was a hit and run but they found him. He was going about 30 or more when he hit me. Loud enough that it woke up the entire neighborhood. The car drives like crap now. Seems to require allot more power to get the rear moving. But all inspection say its safe. I plan on going after depreciation and then trading the car off for something that is not tainted. Might just get the ST after all.
EDIT: thats also all his coolant on the ground. They followed the leak back to his place. He lost the entire front side of his car and most of the front end of his. cops had cleaned up the road before i was able to get picks of most of the other stuff. |

when my dad's girlfriend got hit like that (she drives a kia optima) it ended up tweaking her rear axle a little bit, needing to be replaced, as well as the obvious body damage. she didn't pay a penny for repairs, as it was the same exact story as this, but there was alot of damage most people wouldn't even think to check
