I say if you can sit in it comfortably, do it. Stock to stock, I haven't ever driven a car that handles quite as well as a Miata. Extremely nimble and sure-footed. Puts the Focus completely to shame.

Not too shabby to drive. My ex-girlfirend's family had a 1991 and a 2001 miata. The 91 was autotragic and could barely climb a hill. Also in the 91 I see over the top windshield which wasn't very comfortable to me having my head above it. The 01 man that thing moved. It handled well and rode nice.

Just be sure you don't forget about some of the practicality loss you will take. less trunk space only one passenger that sort of thing. I looked at miatas but decided I couldn't do it because I travel around too much and need the extra cargo space.

You're doing it wrong.

I'm 6'5" 280 lbs and I fit in my brother's old Miata. Granted, it was real tight with the hardtop. And even tighter behind the wheel. But that's almost a foot taller than you.

With the top off I fit fine. Getting in was kind of a hassle but once in, it worked.

To OP.. I approve. Miatas are fun little cars. And get sideways reaaaaal easy. Have fun!

Lightness >>>> power. You can always add power. It's a hell of a lot harder to make a car lighter and still drive it every day.

Miatas have a ton of room inside them. People don't get miatas they maybe cute and small but they are light and rwd. They handle like go-carts and are a great platform for a race car.

Go for it dude. Join up on midwest mazda club on FB for your local mazda needs. Lots of badass builds.

Too small for me.

Your average height and too tall for a miata? Are you standing on the seat?

So dramatic.

not sure if the miata counts as a "proper sports car" but its fun none-the-less. lol

My dad had one for a while (an o2 or o3, i think). I literally could not sit in it with the top up. The car was fun, but I simply did not fit....

i'd say it fits the bill of a traditional roadster, maybe not really sports car but still I like it. I'm just gonna sell my st for 3k firm and buy a decent used miata.
