Smile New to this forum and already a HID question!

Hello, I am new to this forum since I just got a Ford Focus 2010 SE Auto. I am really appreciating the MPG of this car, I used to own a RX-8... I had to sell the Mazda since I am starting my career in real estate and I travel alot.

I want to convert my headlights into HID. I searched for 2 days and I found alot of helpful info on the net. I will go with a 35W AC bi-xenon hid 8000k kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/350609315322...S:1123&vxp=mtr. I just had 2 questions left that weren't answered by the internet.
1. I want to know if this kit needs a warning canceller or any other kind of parts.
2. Should I get 55W or 35W.

Hope to find the answer and by the way, if the is a D.I.Y. can someone be kind enough to send the the link?

You will be blinding the world without retrofitting proper hid projector housings . Hids dont work right in halogen housings. Also a 55 watt will probably damage your lights from heat. But to each his own , and ebay stuff is crap. Try theretrofitsource.com
They have quality shit , and they have the full projector kits if you wanna do it the right way and not be riced out lol.

Don't know if it matters in canada, but this kit is not DOT approved and not legal in the USA. The optics of the stock headlights assembleis are not correct for HID, so the pattern is poor and oncoming drivers get blinded. I would suggest 35W unless you want to attract police.

Just as the other people in this thread have said, do not purchase that HID kit ... or any ebay kit at all for that matter. The primary issue being that they do not contain an actual HID projector to retrofit into your housings that will keep the light directed to where it should be. The only thing a kit like that is going to accomplish is to blind other people on the road and increase the likelihood they will crash into you or other people/objects.

General Technical Chat is for technical discussions relating to general maintenance, electrical issues, engine trouble, and recalls. When a question is about a modification, it should be posted in another forum. Posts in here typically deal with cars that won't run, or won't run right.

Good luck, hopefully you laws will allow you to use these kits. The kits should be cheap. Now HID lamps were available from the factory in that YM, so you might be able to find some in a junkyard. If it were me, I'd just add some powerful driving lights. It's much cheaper. Then you can put those on a separate switch from the fog lamps. If you don't have fog lamps, see if you can find a Focus in the junkyard with Fog lamps, and get the factory light switch for it- that will look much better than a toggle switch.

I've heard some reliability issues with those aftermarket HID lamps that would keep me from ever ordering one even if it was legal here. I don't know if there are any reliable manufacturers left- or if there ever were.

Thanks for the quick replies. It is not legal in Canada but the police doesn't give you a hard time as long as you don't drive dangerously. I will listen to the advice and go with the 35w HID 8000k. And eventually I will put oem fog if I find a focus at the scrap yard.

I really wouldnt worry about the whole projector retro fit, although if you have the money i would do it. Ive had my 6000k in my headlights and just adjusted them lower and have never gotten flashed by oncoming drivers.

Who gave you that terrible advice??

Im anti plug and play HIDs but at least run 4300k or 5000k bulbs.

4300k is the brightest but has a hint of yellow. 5000k is pure white and still very bright. The more color (high K rating) the less light output you get.

Thats what they all say. It doesn't matter how you "adjust" your headlights. They cause GLARE. Pointing them down doesn't fix glare at all.

I used to give people running PNP HIDs some projector high beam every time I got blinded by them but I got bored after a while so I stopped flashing people.
