I think this post says it all. You "bonded" with the truck through these experiences, and it became more than just a tool for getting around. Other people see it as some ragged pickup, but it's obviously a lot more than that to you.

I love my dented up, 12-year old automatic SPI sedan to bits, and I wouldn't trade her for a Ferrari, partially because of the emotional attachment I have. I remember my parents bringing her home brand new. It's the car I learned to drive in. It's the car my friends and I have done really stupid stuff in, the car I felt so proud to show up to high school in, the car that my dad and I worked on for hours in the garage, the car I got my first speeding ticket in... I could go on for a while. The fact that I even call it "her" says a lot too!

All that makes me love her dearly and dump thousands into mods, despite people telling me to send her dented up, slow, 12-year old ass to the scrapyard and finance a Corolla or something dreary.

Well if you dont get what all the fuss is, then maybe you joined for the technical aspect and not the enthusiast aspect. Not everyone buys a car to customize it. I bought mine for gas mileage because I owned a Excursion and a Superduty. So a car was in order. I have learned to like my car because it is economical and reliable.

There is truth in this, especially when stickers, twine, broken door handles and no A/C are added into the mix. No one in their right mind could get excited about that. A car needs to be mechanically and functionally sound for an enthusiast to be, well, enthused.

That's not meant as an offense to the original poster, just advice that those things have to be taken care of first.
