light tundra focus build
Alright so i finally have the time to post up my build thread. I have a 2003 zts in light tundra metallic w/ a zetec.
I'll be updating as I go along. Nothing to crazy. Car started out completely stock when purchased at 75000 miles. Now approaching 145K miles. No starting pictures can't seem to find any. Just 2 years ago i started to begin the mods. most recent pics of the car after a fresh bath: ![]() ![]() ![]() First mod: Pioneer fh-p8000bt radio went in ![]() In order for this to be fitted i had to dremel the radio surround and do a little modification to make it fit. But thanks to you guys on the forum it was easy! brought the stock speakers to life! I then wanted to do a blue led conversion so i did the blue odometer mod by sanding away the green film and added blue leds from superbrightleds.com to my cluster. I really liked the blue and saw the amazing work that starfury55 did on here. So i grabbed up a set of blue from him for the other controls including HVAC upper and lower, window switches, and headlight switch. and boy does it look fantastic. He did a great job. you be the judge ![]() ![]() third up i got a magnaflow 2.5" exhaust w/ res from tru-bendz don't have a picture for when this went on but it the fit was pretty good. I absolutely love the tone as well, nice and deep not to loud either. For Christmas my sister got me all-weather floor mats both front and rear. As i had completely worn a hole in the carpet ones. bless her soul. (already getting some use!) ![]() Next i upgraded the rear speakers to infinity reference 8602cfx and added an eclipse 2212 amp to the trunk to power them. I ran some 4gauge CCA wire to the trunk. I knew it was overkill for this amp but i planned on expanding. sounded awesome in the back and the head unit i had put plenty of power to the fronts still but i had to have it faded to the back to balance the sound out. ![]() I was then reading through the forums when i found that these cars do not come with a cabin filter so i picked one of those up and installed it. Also picked up some SS brake lines for the front. ![]() The next thing i wanted to do was to make my bluetooth mic part of the car itself. Up until this point it was just sitting wrapped around the steering wheel adjuster and didn't really work to well. So i pulled out the little change holder thing and did a few modifications to it to make it fit. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was kinda disappointed in that when I closed the tray all the way the mic would pop out that little but then I realized when it was in all the way it was still difficult to hear me on the other end because the mic had slits in the side to allow for more sound and those just popped out just enough when I pushed it in all the way. Problem solved. Next up i added my front speakers kappa 682.9cf along with my new 4-channel amp a pioneer gm-6500f amp. Now I go snowboarding with friends every winter and it was imperative that i kept trunk space for 3 snowboards and gear so i couldn't have the amp in a place were it would get wet from the boards or the gear after a long day of riding so i concocted a plan with one of my buddies. He had his license plate mount from from his smart car that, for some magical reason, had the mounting holes line up directly with 2 matching holes on the ceiling of the trunk. Cut and painted a piece of scrap plywood to mount to that and installed the amp to the ceiling of the trunk. speakers getting installed: ![]() Amp mounted: ![]() ![]() pics were taken before everything was wired loomed up looks much cleaner now. Thing is sturdy as a rock. and wasn't falling down for no one. Next up was the intake: i bought a used svt intake from a member on here and a new k&n drop-in and installed it. took less than 30mins. seemed to bring the car to life a little more didn't have such a bog down low during take off 9/10 recommended. ![]() Got some round knobs to take care of the last little bit of green from my HVAC knobs. I took advice from the forums on here and got the circular ones. Did the little clip modification so it would fit on there but i found them to be loose and feel rather cheap so i took them out and a little get together with the dremel working on them: ![]() installed: ![]() That's the story so far but there is more to come! SVT header swap w/ ORP(close to being ready to put on just need gaskets, egr bung welded in, dipstick, and header wrap) I've been piecing it together for months now. subwoofer: just need to get ahold of a belt sander to finish the custom box I'm building for it and some carpet. Here's the sub i'm putting in Kappa 100.9w powered by pioneer prs-d800 amp. DONE. ![]() SVT springs Tint I will be adding more as i get the funds for more projects. keeps me sane from all the school work. Last edited by Tundrafoci; 05-05-2013 at 10:34 AM. |

Here is the box i'm building,
![]() it's still in pieces because I need to get a hold of a belt sander to make them all the perfect height. it's going sit right behind the passenger tail light and extend upwards towards the front of the car. Once i have everything finished i will post the dimensions/write up on how to make it when i get the rest of what i need. going be. i left room near the tail end to allow up to .80 cu ft but when i assemble it the inner part will EXACTLY .75 (the recommend size for my sub). So question: would it be a better idea to reinforce with another 3/4 inch MDF on the front of the box or support the inside of the box with pieces running up the height of it? Ideally both but my scraps from what is left only allows one or the other. |

I was toying with the idea of putting one of the 12's on the other side. But that's a little ways down the road.
Also thinking about sound deadening. I'm thinking peel & seal with ensolite over that. both pretty cheap but i think the combo will be just what i'm looking for. |
