I agree there isn't much use for it, and for some reason it's becoming a very "popular thing" on newer cars, about half the cars I rent on a regular basis have one, along with my gfs sonic

I keep my school id for parking and roadside assistance card in there. Its great for me.

I suppose if they had done something really useful with the spot, the people with park assist would complain that they lost a feature.
