Bahahahaha I have them too! All the bolts labeled in bags next to the corresponding parts!

Just replaced all the coolant hoses with blue CFM 10 piece kit. Very good quality stuff!

Hit two speed bumps.

1. One of the piston rings was defective from total seal and they are sending me a new one via USPS.

2. When I checked my valves to replace the seals I noticed all the exhaust valves were lightly rusted. Grabbed some WD-40 and 600 grit sand paper and managed to get almost all of it off. I didn't finish them all yet so can't post pics. Since I have to remove everything anyhow I will probably grab some scotch brite pads and clean off the hole head to just play it safe and remove carbon build up. I could replace all the valves but that's $350-$400 in parts from ford(if they even have them anymore) and another $500 at the machine shop.... That's just not in my budget right now. Some I'm gonna clean it throw it back on and hope for the best. If I hear tapping ill just grab another head on the forums vs $1000 worth of work needed to get my head to OEM spec again.


Also, I have come to the realization I had a gigantic problem.... Because I am swapping pistons rods crank ect.... And I removed my cams.... How the heck do I install my timing belt to ensure proper timing? I have the cam tools for the zetec motor but I'm confused as to how I'm suppose to install this thing? Cams and gears are not changing at all! Head is just being scrubbed and new seals.

surface rust on the valves wont hurt any thing. as long as its not affecting the valve seats and the stems are smooth so they wont damage seals. scotch bright should work fine.

on the cam timing just get the head installed on the new engine with short block set to tdc using the block plug tool. set the cams using the cam plate. then put your belt on and set its tension. very easy on the zetec

That's what I figured I just wanted to reverify so thanks for clearing that up. I sent a picture to Tom and he also agreed the clean valves don't need to be replaced. Should finish them today and post some more pics up.

Head is finished and ready to go back on the motor. Quick question.... Which way do the arrows on the pistons point? I know to the front on the motor but which side is the front, the side with the timing belt or the side where the tranny bolts up?

the arrows dont matter. the larger valve reliefs go on the intake side.
